Please, please, please take a moment to double check your dogs chip database records! A huge portion of the dogs that are offered to CAESSR for surrender do not have up to date records (so imagine how many dogs out there don't have up to date records!!). Don't assume that the breeder updated them when you purchased your puppy. Don't forget to update the record when you change your address, telephone number or email! If your dog goes missing and your contact details aren't up to date...you're unlikely to get your dog back. They'll go to a centre for 7 days (and it is rarely a centre anywhere near where you live), and then they can be rehomed to somebody else...Gone from your life forever.
If you don't know your dogs microchip number, it can usually be found on their vaccination card. Or your vet can tell you from their records.
Head to www.check-a-chip.co.uk and enter the number - and it'll tell you which of the many chip companies the chip is registered with so you know who to contact and update.
June is National Microchipping Month and a perfect reminder to check that your dog’s microchip details are up to date.
Microchipping is one of the easiest ways to help reunite lost dogs with their owners, giving pets the best chance of getting home safely if they ever go missing.
With Petlog, millions of pets across the country are registered and protected.
Remember, dogs must legally be microchipped by eight weeks old - and keeping your contact details updated is just as important if anything changes.
