☕ Family Hub joining us next Wednesday! 👋

We’re pleased to welcome Becky from the Stoke-on-Trent Best Start Family Hubs to our Community Coffee Morning at Middleport Matters Community Hub at St Paul’s next Wednesday.

Becky will be there for a friendly chat and to share information about the support available through the Family Hub for local children, young people and families.

Family Hubs can help with a wide range of things, including parenting and family support, children’s development, health and wellbeing, SEND support, advice and guidance, and connecting families with other local services.

💬 No appointment needed – just pop in, grab a cuppa and have a chat!

Looking for something fun to do this half term? Join Middleport Matters for a FREE family padel session followed by lunch at Ace Padel UK!

Whether you're completely new to padel or have played before, this is a great opportunity to get active, have fun together and try something new as a family.

📅 Thursday 29th October
⏰ 10:00am - 12:30pm: Padel Session
🍽️ 12:30pm - 1:30pm: Lunch
📍 Ace Padel, Elder Road, Cobridge, ST6 2JF

✅ No experience necessary
✅ Equipment provided
✅ Lunch included
✅ Fun for the whole family

Places are limited and must be booked in advance.

Under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. This is a family session and parents/carers are responsible for supervising children

📢 National Hate Crime Awareness Week | 10th–17th October 2026

At Middleport Matters, we are proud to support National Hate Crime Awareness Week and stand alongside to help raise awareness, encourage reporting and show our support for anyone affected by hate crime.

Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected and valued in their community, regardless of who they are. 💜 Together, we can help create a community where hate has no place and everyone feels they belong. 🤝

💬 What is a hate crime?

A hate crime is a criminal offence motivated by hostility or prejudice towards someone's disability, race, religion, sexual orientation or transgender identity. Hate incidents that don't meet the criminal threshold can still be reported and may need support.

🚨 HOW CAN YOU REPORT A HATE CRIME OR INCIDENT?

🚔To the police: If a crime is happening now or someone is in immediate danger, call 999.
☎️For non-emergencies, call 101 or report online via the Police UK website; https://www.police.uk/
📞To Uniting Staffordshire Against Hate (USAH): You can contact the service for advice, support and help reporting hate crime. Call 0330 0881 339.

✅ You don't have to be the victim: If you witness a hate crime or incident, you can report it too. You can also seek advice if you're unsure whether what happened counts as a hate crime.

💜 Let's stand together against hate. By speaking out, reporting incidents and supporting one another, we can help make Middleport and our wider community safer and more welcoming for everyone.

Looking for a fun, free family activity during half term? Come along and join us for a Family Story Quest Walk! 🚶‍♀️🍂👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

📍 Meet outside Westport Lake Visitors Centre, ST6 4RZ

Enjoy a lovely family walk along the canal while taking part in a fun Story Quest hunt, courtesy of National Literacy Trust in Stoke-on-Trent ! 🔎📖 You'll be searching for clues, solving puzzles and helping to unravel a mystery along the way. 🕵️‍♀️✨

👧👦 Suitable for families with children of all ages.
⚠️ Parental supervision of children is required at all times.

🎟️ No booking required! Just turn up and meet us outside the Visitors Centre at 10.00am.

Our walk will finish at The Block, Middleport Park, ST6 3PT, where you can enjoy some FREE refreshments, kindly provided by ActiveStoke . ☕🍪

Clearing out cupboards, wardrobes, toy boxes or bookshelves? Before throwing things away, please think of Middleport Matters.

🎁 New, unused items suitable for Christmas gifts

We can help rehome items in good condition, passing them on to local residents and families who can make use of them. It’s a great way to give unwanted items a new home, reduce waste and support our community at the same time. ♻️

With Christmas on the way, we’re also collecting new items that could be given as gifts to children, teenagers and adults to help make Christmas a little brighter for local families. 🎄🎁

5.30pm - 7pm - Burslem Youth Connect with Barnado's (The Block, Middleport Park) (10 - 16yrs)

🌱 Tuesday
9.30am - 1pm – Root ’n’ Fruit Community Garden (Mott Place, Trubshaw Cross) (18yrs+)
Drop in, get stuck into the garden, and enjoy some fresh air and friendly faces.

10am - 12pm - Elevate Plus Skills and Development Workshop (18yrs+) at Harper House.
Build confidence, develop new skills and explore opportunities for personal growth in a supportive and welcoming environment.

10am - 11.30am – Little Roots toddler session (at Root 'n' Fruit Community Allotment) - parking available at St Paul's Church
A fun outdoor session for toddlers and their grown-ups to explore nature, enjoy sensory play, and discover the community allotment together.

10am - 12pm - Neighbourhood Improvement Session & Coffee Morning (18yrs+)
A welcoming community session where you can help make a positive difference through practical improvement projects, outdoor activities, and teamwork, or simply drop into our community hub for a brew, a chat, and some friendly company.

We’re so proud to have taken part in the challenge on Thursday, joining the National Literacy Trust and British Council in their exciting attempt to set a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the most people reading together in 12 hours! 🏆📖

It was lovely to take some time out of our busy day to celebrate the joy of reading and come together as a community. ❤️ Whether it’s a favourite book, a magazine or something new, reading opens up a world of imagination, learning and adventure! 🌈✨

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped us be part of this fantastic national challenge. We loved being involved and supporting such an important cause. 🥰

At Middleport Matters, we believe reading should be enjoyable and accessible to everyone, and we’re always happy to encourage our community to discover the magic of books! 📚💫
