Making it easier to find support through health services 💜

Sometimes, a conversation with a GP, nurse or another healthcare professional can be the first opportunity to tell someone about domestic abuse.

That's why our Health IDVA, has brought health professionals and domestic abuse specialists together through a new Derbyshire-wide group.

Professionals joined the first session, sharing knowledge and building stronger connections between services.

It's all about helping the people you may already turn to for healthcare to understand domestic abuse and know how to connect you with specialist support when you need it.

Support can start with someone you trust 💜

Talking about domestic abuse isn't always easy. For some people, the first person they turn to might be a friend, family member, community leader or someone within their faith.

That's why we're working with the Diocese of Derby to help church and community leaders better understand domestic abuse, respond sensitively when someone reaches out and know where specialist support is available.

We'll be sharing our knowledge with their safeguarding network from September, helping create more opportunities for people across Derbyshire to find support through people they already know and trust. 🤝

If your device needs to stay hidden, you can choose to opt out:

📱 Android: Search “Emergency alerts” → Severe Alerts & Extreme Alerts OFF

People experiencing abuse may keep a phone or device hidden from their abuser. UK Emergency Alerts can sound and vibrate even when a device is on silent, potentially revealing it.

Working together to make support easier to find 💜

Domestic abuse can begin or become worse during pregnancy, and we know reaching out for help isn't always easy. If this is something you're experiencing, support is available.

That's why our IDVA team recently joined a perinatal support day in Derbyshire, helping professionals who support people during pregnancy and after having a baby to recognise the signs of abuse, respond sensitively and know where to turn for specialist help.

The session has already helped people find their way to our support services, showing the difference working together can make 🤝
