A Global Movement for Dignity: The Rotary Club of World Disability Advocacy
By Ken Masson, Co-President RCWDA
In a world where borders often define communities, one Rotary club has chosen a different path—one without boundaries. The Rotary Club of World Disability Advocacy (RCWDA) is not not focused on a single city, region, or nation. Its community is the world, and its mission is nothing less than the advancement of human rights for people with disabilities everywhere.
RCWDA stands as one of Rotary’s most globally diverse clubs. Its members span more than 30 countries, bringing together advocates, professionals, and changemakers who share a single purpose: to build a world where disability rights are recognized as human rights. Its board of directors reflects this extraordinary diversity, representing 14 countries across four continents—possibly the most internationally varied leadership team in Rotary’s history.
“I often wonder what Rotary founder Paul Harris would think of this club,” reflects Ken Masson, co-president and one of RCWDA’s founders. “I’m sure he never imagined a club with this scope and this mission. Yet I believe he would be proud of how Rotary continues to evolve to meet humanity’s greatest needs.”
As a cause based club, RCWDA has captured global attention. Unlike many traditional clubs that struggle to attract new members, RCWDA experiences a steady stream of interest from individuals eager to contribute to its mission. In fact, the club must carefully manage its growth to ensure it remains effective, connected, and mission driven.
One of its most innovative membership pathways is the Friends of the Club category—designed for individuals who are not yet Rotarians but are deeply committed to the cause. These members do not pay monetary dues; instead, they contribute through service, advocacy, and action. It is a model that reflects the club’s belief that passion, not payment, is the true currency of change.
RCWDA is more than a Rotary club. It is a global movement—uniting voices, cultures, and lived experiences to champion dignity, inclusion, and equal opportunity for people with disabilities worldwide.
