For anyone staying at Copeland cottage

We are pleased to confirm that the temporary ban on open fires at Copeland Cottage and Harrison Site has now been lifted, with effect from 1st October.

Whilst we are happy to allow fires again, we are asking everyone to please remain cautious and follow a few simple reminders to help keep our site, neighbouring properties and the surrounding countryside safe:

* Please use heat mats or dedicated areas for cooking and fires wherever possible.
* Please do not burn fly-away substances, such as paper, leaves, packaging or anything else that could easily catch and spread beyond the fire.
* Please ensure fires are properly extinguished once you have finished with them. Check that the fire is completely out and has cooled sufficiently before leaving it unattended.

Although the fire ban has been lifted, conditions can change quickly, so we ask all visitors to continue to use fires responsibly and to consider the surrounding environment.

You will be able to meet other volunteers and young leaders with the division and share your guiding experiences as well as join in a fun traitors game and enjoy light refreshments

Anyone visiting Copeland cottage please note the temporary fire ban

🔥 IMPORTANT UPDATE – TEMPORARY FIRE BAN 🔥

Following the national Emergency Alert issued today regarding the very high risk of wildfires, we have introduced a temporary ban on all open fires at Copeland Cottage & Harrison Site with immediate effect.

This decision has been made to support the national emergency advice and to help protect our visitors, our site, neighbouring land and the surrounding countryside during these exceptionally dry conditions.

🚫 The ban includes:
🔥 Campfires in the campfire circles
🔥 Altar fires
🔥 Firepits and similar outdoor fires
🔥 The open fire inside Copeland Cottage
🔥 Any other live/open flames where there is a risk of fire spreading

We know that sitting around a campfire is a much-loved part of many residential experiences, but with the current conditions, the risk simply isn’t worth taking.

The ban will remain in place until conditions improve sufficiently for it to be safely lifted.

Today we said goodbye to Mrs Norma Oldham, our much-loved former Division Commissioner.

Thank you to everyone who came to the funeral and showed their support to Alan and the family. It truly meant a great deal to see so many people there to honour her life and all she gave to guiding.

She touched the lives of so many with her kindness, dedication, and steady leadership. She will be deeply missed, but fondly remembered always.

Rest in peace, Mrs Oldham 💙
