Chelsea update
I don’t think it’s possible to say how incredibly proud we are of our superstar Chelsea. In October Chelsea went for her resection on her brain tumour or as much as possibly safely. Chelsea was in the operation for just under 9 hours they successfully got about 80/90% of it out, In which everyone is chuffed to bits with. The tumour is now going off for lots of different tests, to see what treatment would be best for Chelsea if/when needed.
After the operation Chelsea had pretty much slept but was showing weakness down her left side again. With some improvement after a few days. Five days later Chelsea’s had been more alert and started to sit up and stand briefly. She started to take a few steps with the physio team and we were so pleased of the progress that she’s making.
Chelsea had a MRI scan the Drs came in the afternoon to confirm that unfortunately Chelsea had suffered another Stroke hence the left sided weakness. We weren’t surprised by this because we were thinking it ourselves but were absolutely gutted that it’s happened again. They have been pleased with the progress that she is making and we will keep taking each day as it comes.
Chelsea was allowed home to continue her progress with the community physio team. She was so happy to be back home. After a few days of being home Chelsea started to become unwell we had a review at the hospital but everything looked stable on her scan, we came home again but unfortunately Chelsea was still unwell after a few days, we went to Stoke hospital to get her checked out, she had another scan and it revealed that Chelsea had fluid on the brain so we were taken back to Alder hey late that night by ambulance. The dr was waiting for us when we arrived. We didn’t know if she was going straight for surgery or was having the operation the next day. The dr examined and decided that she will have surgery in the morning.
Chelsea had the fluid drained in the morning and as soon as she came back to the ward she felt so much better. After a few days Chelsea was allowed home again.
Since being home Chelsea has recovered and continued to do her physio. We just had to wait for her results to come back from her tumour which would take a while.
Chelsea has had a couple scans since and all seems to be stable. We had the results from her tumour it’s still the same type but they have found 2 mutations in it so at the moment there is no treatment available for her but hopefully there will be a targeted treatment coming available soon or at least available when/if needed.
Chelsea had a scan last month and her tumour remains stable/maybe a little bigger but they are happy with that.
Last June when Chelsea had a scan she had a routine spinal scan as they do this from time to time, when the report came back they had see something on it which they were thinking it could be possibly be a blood vessel so they weren’t worried and said they will continue to monitor it. With everything that happened with her operation nothing else got mentioned about the spine. Chelsea had a scan last month which included her spine, unfortunately they have discovered that she has a tumour on it, they think it’s the same kind of tumour as her brain. We are all absolutely devastated but they will continue to monitor it and hopefully when she gets targeted treatment that will target this tumour too.
We know Chelsea will continue to be an amazing superstar like she always is 🦋
