As part of our AHP Day celebrations, we're highlighting the different apprenticeship pathways available within Allied Health Professions.
Daniel Booth joined us in December 2016 as a Dietetic Assistant and, after progressing within the Dietetics team, completed the Level 6 Dietitian Apprenticeship and is now working as a Dietitian.
"The apprenticeship meant a great deal to me, it was an ambition to become a dietitian for some time but as an older person with the responsibilities of children and mortgages etc it was the only realistic way I was going to be able to achieve it. I was very grateful to be given the opportunity, and it was a confidence boost from my line managers that they had the faith in me to put me through the course and support my development."
On the support received throughout the apprenticeship, Daniel shared:
"The support I had from the trust was mainly from within the dietetic team, both from my managers in terms of being allowing me the time away from my usual job to go on placements and the wealth of knowledge I had from colleagues that I could tap into at any time when I found something challenging."
When asked what advice would be given to colleagues considering an apprenticeship, Daniel said:
"My advice to anyone wanting to undertake an apprenticeship would be to do it. It won't always be plain sailing, and some elements will be difficult and frustrating at times, however the outcome of a qualification and better prospects for my future career was more than worth any issues I faced."
Thank you to Daniel for sharing this apprenticeship journey and helping to showcase how apprenticeships can support career development and provide valuable pathways into Allied Health Professions.
