Where It All Started

In 2018 I gave birth to our son Olly. Unfortunately very early into Olly’s life I suffered with Severe Postnatal Depression & Anxiety and voluntarily admitted myself to a Mother & Baby Unit. During my time in a mother & baby unit and during my recovery it came to my attention that there is very little support (However, this is changing for the better) for Dad’s or Baby/Toddler Groups where they can meet & speak with other Dad’s. My husband was too diagnosed with depression having watched me deteriorate and lived through what we can only describe as the most difficult & challenging times of our lives. At the time I felt I received a lot of help and support, however, there was very little support for my husband or groups in our local area he could attend. I have attended a number of Baby & Toddler Groups and rarely/ if ever have I seen a Dad. We are living in a society now where parents share their maternity leave & Dad’s are wanting to take their children to groups, however, are put off due to them being female dominated and fear of being the only Dad there.

I wanted to do something positive and setting up Daddy & Me: Messy Stay & Play was a real passion of mine. I set up a poll in 2018 and Identified that there was a demand for a Dad’s Baby & Toddler Group. Daddy & Me: Messy Stay & Play not only gives Dad’s a place to go with their children but a place to speak to other Dad’s and perhaps seek support or share their experiences with each other.

As well as working as a Police Officer I volunteer for a local Charity - Raindrops to Rainbows who offer peer support groups for mums, mums to be & families suffering from Pre and Postnatal Depression who support our group.
