Buzzilliant Books – Enterprise Workshop
A hands-on, whole-day workshop that brings the world of books and business together.
Pupils work in teams to design and run their own bookshop, applying skills across the curriculum.
Activities include:
Budgeting and buying stock (Maths)
Branding, logo design, and shop naming (Art & English)
Pricing, discounts, and sales strategy (Maths & Business)
Teamwork, communication, and presentation skills (PSHE)
Each team pitches their bookshop idea to a panel of judges.
The winning team gets to run the school’s bookshop for real — with all profits staying in school.
Buzzilliant Books gives pupils a taste of enterprise, teamwork, and literacy combined.

Quacked Spines is the not-for-profit wing of Drake The Bookshop, created to make books and authors accessible to every child. We reinvest profits and funding to deliver inspiring, free, and subsidised events in schools and communities.
Our Offers -

• Buzzilliant Books – A hands-on enterprise day where pupils design, budget, and pitch their very own bookshop. The winning team runs it for real in school — with profits staying in school.

• The Great North Author Tour – A two-day celebration of stories. 12 authors visiting schools across Teesside with free workshops and signed books for children, followed by a bus tour linking our region’s independent bookshops.

We’re proud to launch Quacked Spines CIC, the not-for-profit arm of Drake The Bookshop in Stockton on Tees.

Our mission: to remove barriers to reading by providing free/subsidised books, author events, and workshops in schools across Teesside.

We absolutely love this interview Tom Palmer gave on BBC Breakfast last week about the importance of reading with children as the perfect way to help children learn and gain an understanding of big issues - time spent reading with kids is never lost

We love this entry from Quacked Spines CIC in our latest Snap & Share to Win competition! With a little help from Tees Million funding, they’ve been busy bringing their brilliant ‘Build-a-Bookshop’ day - Buzziliant Books - to life and offering it free for primary schools across Teesside!

Pupils from Croft Primary School are pictured getting to grips with everything it takes to run their own bookselling enterprise - from designing logos, budgeting to buy stock and using entrepreneurial skills to sell their idea to a judging panel.

The winning team gets to run their bookshop in school for a whole week - and even better, they keep the profits for their school!

👏 Well done to everyone involved – you're officially in the draw to win a £500 grant!
