Excerpt from FS INITIATIVE ORGANIC SEEDS PROJECT PAMPHLET

The essence of this pamphlet is to explain and give a clearer direction in our effort to preserve organic seeds in Africa for general good given the existential threat of organic food in today's world.

As world population increases annually by tens of millions, humanity have limited options to put food on the table, hence the GMO perceived option rears it's ugly head in that heated debate for alternatives in feeding the rapidly growing population.

Even promoters of the Genetically modified organisms(GMOs) widely known as GMO can't shy away from it's health and other challenges, hence we need to move fast to preserve our organic seeds in order to retain our more healthier and better quality food.

These seeds which is generally acceptable by both promoters of GMO and organic as much healthier and of good quality are gradually facing existential threat globally.
So as many of them are home to Africa, FS Initiative has stepped inn to assist in retaining them.

That's where we need the assistance of each and everyone of us from the haves to have nots to join hands with FS Initiative in retaining organic seeds in Africa.

PROCUREMENT
We have well organised procurement process enroute our volunteers especially project co-ordinators and fundraising volunteers.

SEEDS DISBUSEMENT/SALES CHANNEL
We also have an open sales channel enroute FS Initiative volunteers. All FS Initiative organic seeds will be packaged and sold in different sizes from grams to kilograms starting from 1000 grams(1kg), 500grams, 250grams to 100 grams for smaller seeds while bigger seeds start from 1kg to 10kg with Sticker clearly labelled FS Initiative Organic Seeds. The essence of being packaged in different sizes is for both affordability and convenience so as to accommodate all.

REWARD
In order to encourage good behaviour/decent business practice within our procurement routes, FS Initiative will encourage an annual or periodic get together with farmers and others that assist in upholding that desired organic seeds standard that makes us stand out as a reliable brand in procurement of organic seeds.

For wider reach of FS Initiative Organic Seeds Project, this pamphlet will also be published in both English and Pidgin English as well as other widely read African regional languages like Swahili and few others.

FACTS ABOUT CUCUMBERS YOU MUST KNOW

1. Cucumbers contain most of the vitamins you need every day, just one cucumber contains Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium and Zinc.

2. Feeling tired in the afternoon, put down the caffeinated soda and pick up a cucumber. Cucumbers are a good source of B vitamins and Carbohydrates that can provide that quick pick-me-up that can last for hours.

3. Tired of your bathroom mirror fogging up after a shower? Try rubbing a cucumber slice along the mirror, it will eliminate the fog and provide a soothing, spa-like fragrance.

4. Are grubs and slugs ruining your planting beds? Place a few slices in a small pie tin and your garden will be free of pests all season long. The chemicals in the cucumber react with the aluminum to give off a scent undetectable to humans but drive garden pests crazy and make them flee the area.

5. Looking for a fast and easy way to remove cellulite before going out or to the pool? Try rubbing a slice or two of cucumbers along your problem area for a few minutes, the phytochemicals in the cucumber cause the collagen in your skin to tighten, firming up the outer layer and reducing the visibility of cellulite. Works great on wrinkles too!!!

6. Want to avoid a hangover or terrible headache? Eat a few cucumber slices before going to bed and wake up refreshed and headache free. Cucumbers contain enough sugar, B vitamins and electrolytes to replenish essential nutrients the body lost, keeping everything in equilibrium, avoiding both a hangover and headache!!

10. Stressed out and don't have time for massage, facial or visit to the spa? Cut up an entire cucumber and place it in a boiling pot of water, the chemicals and nutrients from the cucumber will react with the boiling water and be released in the steam, creating a soothing, relaxing aroma that has been shown the reduce stress in new mothers and college students during final exams.

11. Just finish a business lunch and realize you don't have gum or mints? Take a slice of cucumber and press it to the roof of your mouth with your tongue for 30 seconds to eliminate bad breath, the phytochemicals will kill the bacteria in your mouth responsible for causing bad breath.

13. Using a pen and made a mistake? Take the outside of the cucumber and slowly use it to erase the pen writing, also works great on crayons and markers that the kids have used to decorate the walls!!

*LET'S TALK PALM*

Palm tree is unique for no part of its products is wasted. The oil, the kernel, and even the shell are all exportable commodities in high demand.
I don't advocate a mass production towards export. Rather, let us mass produce it and add value locally, then export the finished products. The finished products can be exported duty-free to the USA under the framework of AGOA (African Growth and Opportunity Act).

With Palm the land will experience quick development and employment background will change for better with steady internal generating revenue.

There are different kinds of palm that has been existing for century but the game changer of all palms has arrived and should be considered for greater and better development.

Supergene hybrid fruits in 2-3 years while Tenera hybrid fruits in 4-5 years.
Supergene is the most superior oil palm hybrid and has thicker roots/stem
The nuts of these hybrid products are bigger, the productivity is higher, the waiting period before production is greatly reduced.
This specie (Supergene) is part of what makes Malaysia the number one palm producer in the world due to its prolific production there.

Features of High-Yield Supergene Oil-Palm Seedlings

Earlier harvest (22 – 24months), compared to 36 – 48 months of SIRM standard seedling.

The first-year harvest can be up to 7 to 8 tons FFB per hectare.
The lifespan is 25 years.
This variety is resistant to diseases like genoderma and basal stem rot virus.
Higher oil-to-bunch ratio, more than 25% bigger seed, thinner shell, and smaller kernel.
Longer tree lifecycle, 30 years of fruit-bearing, therefore the income period is longer. Although fertilizer application is advised, it can thrive well without fertilizers.
More female flowers, the ratio is 2 times higher than the normal species.
Shorter tree, easy to reach, subsequently, the harvesting cost is reduced.
Tree diameter and circumference is bigger, supports more branch and fruits, reduction of gravity effect allows easy transfer of nutrients from the soil to fruit.
