🇺🇦This month Roman Pronyszyn talked to us about Ukraine, its history, its people and how they were coping during the war with Russia. Roman is of Ukrainian heritage but has lived in the UK for many years. He is helping support his fellow countrymen back home.
He was joined by Krystyna, her husband and friend who are refugees living in Fairfield.
They brought honey from their bees, honey chocolate and beeswax candles. .s.k.bees
We were also treated to Ukrainian honey cake (Medovyk) which was absolutely delicious.

Retail Therapy on our bus trip to Living North Live at Newcastle Racecourse and Boundry Mill yesterday including the drama of a flat tyre!
Empty purses and tired feet but a great day full of laughs and camaraderie.

Some of our members had a very enjoyable tour of the costume store at Preston Park Museum thanks to Christine Hutchinson, Collections Officer. We could touch the garments as long as we wore gloves to protect the fabric and it was interesting to see how most of them hand been hand stitched with very small running stitches. Thanks also go to Claire Scaife from the SDR project who organised the trip for us as a thank you for making the bunting.

This month Marilyn from Makan Sauces invited us taste some meals she prepared from her range of Malaysian sauces. We were able to buy her jars of Curry Paste, Sauces and Marinades.
Marilyn has lived in Stockton since since 2012 and sells at local markets.
There will be a few Malaysian dishes made by our members this week!

Clean 2026.
We filled many bags along our local cycle track and it was nice to receive thanks for our efforts from the cyclists and pedestrians we met.

Wow, that has been a busy week! Some members made Spring wreaths last week and then on Saturday 10 of us went to the Annual Spring Meeting where the guest speaker was National Chair, Jeryl Stone, and the day finished with our Stockton WIs singing group singing a few amusing songs.

Some of our members are taking the opportunity in separate groups to have a tour around the fulfilment depot at Gateshead employing just over 2000 people.
Our first group went yesterday. What a mind-blowing tour it was! It was so interesting (even though we couldn’t take it all in) - the amazing robots, masses of conveyors, the ingenuity of it all.
The tour was well organised and well-led. The two hours went very quickly.
Now we know what happens when we make an order and what it’s like inside one of those huge buildings.

This week Robert Smith from the Zambezi Sunrise Trust told us about this charity which in the last 10 years has supported the building of a school in Zambezi. The school has about 800 pupils, many of whom are orphans.
The original creators of the charity live locally in County Durham and Robert is the nephew of one of our oldest members.
We had our annual sale of cakes and this year the funds raised will be going to the Butterwick Hospice.
