We used to be known as the Stockton Thornaby and District Scout Communications Team. The aims of the team is to provide expert event management & specialist communications to members of the scout association, event organisers and groups in general, by the way of specialist event communication services, thus ensuring safety and efficiency in any event with which we are involved. From Friday morning through to Saturday evening the team were onsite at Sedgefield Show to provide four separate PA systems, pay gate staff and radio hire for the 171st edition of the show.

Using a combination of 100V and passive speakers alongside audio over ethernet we were able to evenly distribute speakers across the main arena, ensuring announcements could be heard clearly throughout.

From Thursday through to Monday, we had a team of 30 people spread across the 80‑acre site managing camping and car parking admissions, campsite showers, providing site services and running 24‑hour event control/info point for thousands of competitors and visitors each day.

A massive thankyou to the team who worked tirelessly around the clock to keep everything running smoothly, ensuring every rider and visitor had the best possible experience.

This year, alongside our Explorer Scout team members, we were also joined by members of the Haarlem Jamborette contingent to assist them with their team building and fundraising ahead of their trip next year.

Last weekend we were at The Brownlee Foundation Events Ripon Triathlon Festival providing a large scale PA system to cover the transition/briefing areas, finish line and event village. In addition to this we also provided radio hire and event control services helping keep over 1000 competitors safe over the weekend.

As always it was great to be working alongside side Cleveland Scouts Watersport who provided the water safety cover for this event.

Whilst some of the team were providing car park management for the Northern Inter-County Athletics Championships the rest of the team were at Richmond Meet. Over the course of the day they provided PA and commentary for the parade and celebrations in the Friary Gardens.

Yesterday our team were out supporting Tees Regatta. We delivered a large PA system for race commentary, remote satellite systems at the start line plus the off‑site trailer park and assisted with car parking throughout the day.

This year we also swapped out the generators on our remote systems and ran them entirely on battery power, charged by renewables delivering a quiet and emission free solution.

From 1975 to 2026, we’ve been proud to serve our community. What started 50 years ago as a specialist radio team has evolved into something so much bigger.

As we start the 2026 event season, the Stockton Thornaby District Scout Communications Team is officially becoming the Stockton Scouts Event Support Team!

Why the change? Simply put: we do way more than just radios now! Whether it’s District and County Scout camps, community festivals, or major national sporting events, our volunteers are the "boots on the ground" making things happen.

Our people haven’t changed - it’s just our name!

On Saturday a total of 25 people from the team along with other members of Cleveland County Scouts helped provide car parking at three different locations for the 2026 National Cross Country Championships in Sedgefield. Throughout the day more than 3,500 runners took part in the event, each requiring parking safely and efficiently. The team played an important role in keeping everything running smoothly.
