Halloween is taking over Stockton Library 🎃👻🦇

Today has been all about getting the outlines down for a BIG Halloween window display — haunted house, bats, pumpkins, witches, spooky characters, mushrooms, cats… basically all the chaos 😂

And very kindly, now the weather is getting poorer, the library have let us move inside to paint instead of battling wind, cold and rain outside 😅❤️

This is still only the outline stage, but I already love how much is going on across the glass. One side is more of a spooky haunted-house scene, while the other is packed with characters, so it should look completely different depending on which direction you’re coming from.

The Meta Quest is earning its keep again too 👀🥽 It makes transferring something this size SO much quicker, especially when the design has to flow across several panes and still line up properly.

This window is also part of our 500 Connections programme, supported by Tees Millions, helping us create more opportunities for people to get involved in creative activities across the community. ❤️

Next job: colour. Lots and lots of colour. 😁🎨

We’re also planning a community painting session at Stockton Library, so if you fancy helping bring it all to life, keep an eye out — date and time to be confirmed soon! 🎨🎃

Sometimes, I just need to take a day and paint something for me. 🎨🐉
Most of the time, I’m painting to a brief — windows for someone else, murals, community projects, workshops, seasonal pieces, something a child has asked for, something that needs to fit a space or tell a particular story.
And I love all of that.
But every now and then, I need to make something with no brief, no deadline, no client, no reason other than “I want to paint this.”
So today I did exactly that.
A dragon.
Lots of purple.
Lots of blue.
A bit of teal and aqua.
Metallic acrylics layered slowly over the day.
And absolutely no plan beyond following what felt right as I went. 😁
One of my favourite things about painting windows is actually seeing them from the inside. There are really two sides to every painting — the outside view, and then the completely different effect you get from indoors when the daylight shines through the glass.
That’s when all those thinner layers, metallics and little transparent gaps start to glow, and the whole thing gets this gorgeous stained-glass effect. ❤️
It was really nice to just get lost in the details for a while — adding scales, horns, shadows, colour, tiny highlights… and not having to think about whether anyone else would like it.
Sometimes creativity doesn’t need to be productive.
Sometimes it just needs to be yours. ❤️
And I think I needed that today.

What. A. Week. 😅🎨❤️

Creative Chaos and Woolywoodshop has very definitely been living up to its name this week.
We’ve painted bus stops, finished Halloween and Remembrance windows, painted a Help for Heroes rear car window, started a new A1 sign for Ch*****ne Charlie’s, planned more window work, looked at another big outdoor mural, had blending lessons, started new groups, unpacked funding deliveries… and somehow Mother Unit also adopted a cat from a mural client. 😂

At a children’s home, some of the young people joined in with the Halloween window painting, which was one of my favourite moments of the week. I also seem to have accidentally gained myself a new little apprentice while I was there. 😅❤️
Another highlight was letting one of the children try the Meta Quest while I painted… only to watch them become so immersed that he kept wandering into walls. 🤣🥽

The Meta has already become a proper part of the work kit and is making transferring large designs onto windows, boards and murals so much quicker.

We’ve also been getting Creative Connections underway, alongside our new Movement Disorders group, and we’re incredibly grateful to Thirteen for funding materials for our creative sessions and to Tees Foundation for supporting our 500 Connections programme. ❤️

We also spent time supporting other community work this week, with me assisting Ajay Wood in the final week of the Well-being Hub’s watercolour workshop. It was lovely seeing everyone’s finished pieces come together and being part of that final session. 🎨

Seeing Jon’s lovely thank-you post after his Help for Heroes car window was another highlight — especially when he immediately said he can’t wait for the Christmas version. 😂🎄

And then there was the big mural enquiry…
I went to view the wall.
We discussed the mural.
Mother Unit somehow adopted the client’s cat on the same day.
Because apparently that is now part of the Creative Chaos commissioning process. 😅🤣

There’s something really lovely happening at the moment. One job leads to another conversation, somebody joins in with a paintbrush, somebody comes back for a group, somebody recommends us to someone else… and the circle just keeps getting bigger.

We are tired.
We are covered in paint.
Mother Unit is learning to blend.
I apparently have an apprentice.
The Meta is making everything faster.
There are about 400 projects happening at once.
And now there is also a cat.
Creative Chaos indeed. 😂❤️

A huge thank you to everyone who has commissioned us, funded us, recommended us, joined in, helped paint, welcomed us into your spaces or simply stopped for a chat.
On to another week of chaos… 😁🎨

🎨 A massive thank you to Thirteen 💛
This week has basically been Christmas at Creative Chaos CIC… boxes, boxes and even more boxes. 😂📦
Thanks to £600 of funding from Thirteen Group, we’ve been able to bring in a huge range of art and craft materials for our Creative Connections sessions.
And the slightly ridiculous amount you can see here? That’s only two of our suppliers. Our Specialist Crafts order arrived last week and has already been unpacked and put away! 👀😂
We’ve stocked up on paints, papers, pads, canvases, drawing materials, modelling supplies and loads more, all ready for local children, young people and families to use through our Sunday sessions.
The funding means people can come in, try something new, experiment with proper materials, learn new skills and create without worrying about whether they can afford to take part. ❤️
11am–1pm — Open Creative Drop-In
2pm–4pm — Creative Skills Club, ages 14+
We’re incredibly grateful to Thirteen Group for helping us make creativity more accessible in our community.
Now we just need to work out where to put the rest of it. 😂
Creative Connections is part-funded by Thirteen Group.

WE’RE BACK 😁🎨
After an absolutely manic summer holidays, Woolywoodshop and Creative Chaos CIC took September to recover, regroup and get a few very important things sorted behind the scenes…
And somehow “taking a quieter month” turned into:
🏠 Setting up Creative Chaos CIC HQ
🧠 Building our own Wooly evidence-gathering system so we can properly capture the photos, feedback, voice notes and impact from our community projects
💻 Bringing The Wooly Wood Shop and Creative Chaos CIC systems together so everything works much more smoothly behind the scenes
📅 Creating a proper online booking system — no more trying to keep track of bookings through comments, messages, scraps of paper and Sophie’s brain 😂
💌 Setting up automatic booking confirmations and reminders
🎨 And securing funding to bring you more affordable and funded creative workshops
So after a month of building, organising, testing, breaking things, fixing things and drinking far too much coffee…
WE ARE BACK. 😁😁😁
Over the next few days we’ll be adding new workshops and activities from both The Wooly Wood Shop and Creative Chaos CIC, including funded community sessions, family activities, workshops and plenty of our usual Creative Chaos nonsense.
You’ll now be able to see what’s coming up, book your places properly and get all the details straight to your inbox. 🎉
Thank you for bearing with us while we got everything ready. The summer was incredible, September was very much needed… and we are ridiculously excited about what’s coming next.
The Wooly Wood Shop and Creative Chaos CIC are officially back. 🦣🎨💚
Keep an eye on the page — bookings are opening very soon! 👀
