Headlight Project Providing therapy to those bereaved by su***de and preventative education & training in the Tees Valley 🧡

Founded in memory of Russ Devereux, the Headlight Project is a registered charity. Our aim is to reduce the number of deaths by su***de in the Tees Valley through therapy of those bereaved by su***de, and preventative education and training.

The Office for National Statistics has published its latest su***de figures, and sadly they tell a familiar story.

In 2025, 6,162 deaths by su***de were registered in England and Wales. That’s 11.3 for every 100,000 people, barely changed from the year before. Once again, the North East had the highest rate of any English region, at 14.0 per 100,000. Men continue to be far more affected, with a rate more than three times that of women.

Behind every one of these numbers is a person who was loved, and a family, friendship group or workplace left trying to make sense of their loss. We see that every day in the adults and children who come to us for therapy after losing someone to su***de.

These figures are a reminder that we all have a part to play. Let’s keep talking, keep learning, and keep showing up for one another. 🧡

Two weeks into Walk 100 Miles for Headlight, and what a sight it’s been. We’ve seen beanies out on beaches, hills, school runs and lunchtime laps across the Tees Valley.

A massive thank you to Peter Welham, who ran not one but two half marathons for us, Redcar and then Cardiff, just seven days apart! 🧡

Peter raised £375 for The Headlight Project, plus the same again for Dementia Action Teesside.

This isn't the first time Peter has fundraised for us, and we're so grateful for his continued support. Every pound helps us provide counselling for people bereaved by su***de and preventative education across Teesside.

A big thank you to Tees Foundation for awarding us a grant of £2,480 through the Tees Million fund 🧡

This funding will go directly towards our counselling sessions for people bereaved by su***de. Grief after su***de can be incredibly complex, and having a safe space to talk with someone who understands can make a real difference.

Support like this from local funders means we can keep being there for families across Teesside when they need it most. Thank you for believing in what we do.

A huge thank you to everyone at CF Fertilisers UK Ltd for welcoming us in to deliver our Shine a Light on Su***de session 🧡

Talking about su***de at work isn't always easy, so we were really grateful for how openly the team listened, asked questions and shared their own thoughts. Conversations like this make it a little easier for someone to reach out, and a little more likely that a colleague will notice when someone isn't okay.

Su***de is a community problem, and everyone can help. Thank you for being part of that.

A big thank you to the team at BAE Systems for welcoming us in to deliver our Shine a Light presentation! 🧡

It was a real privilege to talk openly with your colleagues about su***de prevention, and how we can all look out for one another. Conversations like these help break down stigma and make it easier for people to reach out when they're struggling.
