🏇 A Day at the Races! 🎩🥂

Earlier this week, we headed to Wetley Rocks Village Hall for another brilliant tea dance, bringing together residents and relatives from Hen Cloud House and Shoemaker Place.

With the theme ‘A Day at the Races’, we donned our fascinators and finery and settled in for an afternoon of music, dancing and fun!

We were entertained by our very own Vince from our Central Support Team, followed by residents’ favourite Sarah Mason, who performed plenty of songs we all know and love – finishing with an energetic ‘Freed From Desire’ that had everyone moving! 💃🕺

Add in a delicious afternoon tea, plenty of cake and a little fizz, and it was another fantastic afternoon filled with laughter and great company. 🍰🥂

We’re already looking forward to the next one!

🎂 100 years young! 🎂
Earlier this week, we were delighted to celebrate a very special milestone at Hen Cloud House in Leek, as our lovely resident Brenda reached the grand age of 100! 🥳

And, of course, a birthday this special called for a good old-fashioned party! Brenda was joined by her family, fellow residents and the Hen Cloud House team for an afternoon filled with entertainment, plenty of laughter and – most importantly – lots of birthday cake. 🎶🎈🍰

We were also delighted to be joined by the Mayor of Leek, Councillor Lyn Swindlehurst, who helped us make Brenda’s big day even more memorable.
There was also plenty of excitement when Brenda received her very special birthday card from King Charles III and Queen Camilla – it certainly got plenty of admiration from all of us! 👑💌

A party fit for a queen, for a very special lady. Happy 100th Birthday, Brenda! We were so pleased to be part of such a wonderful celebration and hope you enjoyed every minute.

On Friday afternoon, we had the pleasure of welcoming Councillor Alice Delemare, who represents Davenport and Cale Green, to Reinbek for a little glimpse into life at Borough Care. 🌈

Councillor Delemare joined some of our fantastic residents, Margaret, David and Jeanette, alongside our wonderful Chair, Isla. And, as Life in Colour is what we do, it seemed only right to get the paints out! 🎨🖌️

Armed with pebbles, paint and plenty to talk about, conversation soon turned to everything from the weather (obviously!) and days gone by, to life at Reinbek, tales of eventful trips to the Trafford Centre and how much we all miss Woolworths. Who remembers their pick ’n’ mix? 🍬

It was such a lovely way to spend an afternoon in the garden and to show Councillor Delemare a little of what life at Reinbek is all about – good company, conversation, laughter and plenty of colour.

Our little painting party kept growing too, as families arrived to visit and joined in the fun, meaning our exhibition of painted pebbles got bigger and bigger!

And Margaret probably summed up the afternoon best: “We could sell those in Woolworths if it was still open!” 😂

A huge thank you to Councillor Delemare for spending the afternoon with us, taking the time to chat with our residents and finding out more about Borough Care. We loved having you and look forward to welcoming you back to Reinbek again soon.

🌳 A walk down memory lane 🌳

Last Friday afternoon, colleagues and residents from many of our homes came together for a brilliant walk around Woodbank Park in Stockport.

The intergenerational walk was an idea from our Young Colleagues Network, as they discussed how Borough Care could mark International Youth Day today.

As we walked, we shared memories of days gone by and talked about everything from careers and travel to relationships and everyday life. With so much experience and wisdom to share, our residents were the perfect people to offer advice to our younger colleagues!

We’re incredibly lucky to have a Borough Care community that brings different generations together – from young colleagues beginning their careers to residents with a lifetime of stories, experiences and wisdom to share. There is always so much we can learn from one another.

We finished the afternoon in the sunshine at Bruce Lodge, enjoying drinks, tasty treats and some favourite songs from years gone by.

A lovely afternoon filled with fresh air, happy memories, great conversations and plenty of laughter – and a wonderful way to celebrate International Youth Day! ☀️🎶

There was an excited dash to the shops this morning to pick up a copy of September’s ELLE magazine!

We’re delighted to have been named one of the UK’s Best Workplaces for Women by Great Place To Work UK for the second year running—and even more thrilled to have risen from 85th place last year to number 49 this year!

Seeing Borough Care’s name in print in such a highly regarded publication is always incredibly exciting, and we’re honoured to be listed alongside so many other brilliant organisations, but what makes this recognition even more special is that it is based on feedback from the people who matter most: our colleagues. Their honest experiences have helped us earn our place on this list and show that Borough Care is a workplace where women feel valued, supported and able to thrive.

A huge thank you to everyone who shared their feedback and helps make Borough Care such a special place to work. We couldn’t be prouder. 💜💚

🚴 Inspired by the recent Tour de France, residents at Cawood House have been getting on their bikes… virtually!

As they pedalled mini exercise bikes, first-person videos took them on scenic rides through the countryside. The experience brought back some lovely memories—from cycling home from school to popping to the local shop for a bag of penny sweets. 🍬

A wonderful way to stay active, reminisce and enjoy a trip down memory lane!

A huge thank you to all the family members and friends who have taken the time to complete our feedback survey. Your thoughts, experiences and suggestions are invaluable to us and help us understand what we’re doing well and where we can continue to improve. ❤️

If you haven’t had a chance to complete the survey yet, there’s still one week left!

You can complete a paper copy during your next visit to the home. Or, if you’d prefer to complete the survey online, simply email [email protected] with your relative’s name and the name of the home they live in, and we’ll send you the link.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us — we really do value it. 💙

The weather may not have got the memo that it was Pride, but the grey skies over the North West were just the backdrop to our explosion of Life in Colour at Stockport Pride today! 🌈

We were incredibly proud to be sponsoring such a fantastic celebration of community, inclusion and individuality.

Our brilliant colleagues had a wonderful day handing out colourful Borough Care goodies, meeting people from across the community and sharing what makes Borough Care such a special place. After all, we’re all about people – celebrating who they are, supporting one another and creating places where everyone feels they belong.

A huge thank you to everyone who got involved and helped make today so special. And a special shout out to our LGBTQ+ Network, whose passion and commitment continue to help make Borough Care a place where everyone feels welcomed, valued and celebrated.

Days like today remind us that it’s the people around us who bring the colour to our lives – and we’re very lucky to have such a colourful Borough Care community.

Last week was National Ice Cream Day, and we definitely didn’t need much convincing to join in! 😋🍨🍦

Across Borough Care, many of our homes celebrated with delicious ice cream sundaes, loaded with a huge array of toppings! 🍓🍫🍪

There was something for everyone — from fresh fruit and delicious syrups to sprinkles, sauces and, of course… a flake! Because is an ice cream ever truly complete without one?

And with the recent warm weather, we’ve had even more reason to indulge! Our residents and colleagues have been enjoying plenty of delicious treats and making the most of a lovely excuse to enjoy one of everyone’s favourite desserts. ☀️🍦
