Since Heatons' Men in Sheds started back in 2018, we’ve been incredibly grateful for the generous donations of tools and timber from our amazing community. Thanks to your kindness, our shed is now completely full and we’ve run out of storage space!

Because of this, we’re temporarily suspending donations of tools and wood until further notice.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years with their generosity — it’s truly appreciated. 🔧🪵😊

Would your group like to run a LITTLE FREE LIBRARY?
Little Free Libraries are small, weatherproof book boxes placed in public spots, offering a simple “take a book, return a book” way to share reading with the community.
Back in 2022, we built one for Manchester Road Park in Stockport — but sadly, it was vandalised soon after installation. We repaired it, put it back… and it was vandalised again, this time even set on fire. We were then asked not to reinstall it as it seemed to be attracting the wrong kind of attention.
So our plans to create more Little Libraries were put on hold.
But there’s good news! Recently, we were sent a photo of a Little Library in Taupō, New Zealand — built by the local Men’s Shed — www.facebook.com/TaupoMenShed and it’s on wheels!
This means it can be rolled safely indoors when not in use.
If your group has a secure location where a wheeled Little Library could be used, we’d love to hear from you.
We’re always happy to take on projects that benefit the community. To get in touch or submit a project idea, please use the contact form on our website: www.heatons-mis.co.uk

SIGNS. Does your group need a sign making? It could be a 32 foot (9.75 meters) monster like the one pictured here on Heaton Chapel & Heaton Moor Station or something more modest like the one we made for All Saints Church on Manchester Road SK4.
Does your group have a SIGN you would like Heatons’ Men in Sheds to consider working on? We carry out all sorts of assignments and over the next few days we are going to show pictures of some of our completed jobs. Please note that we do not carry out work for individuals or businesses only for community groups for example: “Friends of” a park, area or station. The congregation of a church or other place of worship. A charity working in the community.
We charge for the materials we use plus a small surcharge for the running costs of our workshop, and consumables like screws, nails and sandpaper.
We have repaired and made from new a lot of noticeboards as you can see from these pictures. If your organisation would like us to consider a project, please use the contact form on our web site www.heatons-mis.co.uk/

A BUSY YEAR
It’s been a busy year for Heatons’ Men in Sheds, we kicked off installing radiator covers for St Mary's Church Hall in Reddish, we repainted gnomes and a Paddington Bear, erected a new notice board for Sustainable Living in the Heatons (SLH), repaired the notice board at St Pauls, fitted decking at the Pendlebury Centre and planters for two Francis House satellite properties and another in the garden at St Pauls.
Built bird boxes with children from St Marys, Reddish and St Paul's, Brinnington. Restored a coat of arms, and created an honours board for past Incumbents at St Johns Heaton Mersey. Installed a water-butt at the Heatons Library, a Community Hall sign for All Saints Church in Heaton Norris and delivered a series of cut outs including bugs to Lyme Park.
Welcomed a variety of visitors to the shed including some young riders from the British Cycling, Olympic Development squad and four sets of participants in our “DIY For Beginners” course, run in conjunction with SLH. We have also worked with SLH at the Heatons’ repair Café and alongside lots of other volunteers have helped to complete a second successful year, 306 items 225 fixed,73.5% success rate!
We finished the year with a fabulous Christmas tree displayed at St Georges Church on Buxton Road where it elicited admiring comments from the Mayor of Stockport and then in the Church where we meet St Pauls in Heaton Moor.
To all those who have supported Men in Sheds over the past twelve months with commissions for projects, donations, kind words, biscuits and cake, we love cake, our sincere thanks. Have a lovely Christmas and we look forward to working with you all in the new year.
