Living with a sensory loss can leave you feeling isolated, which can contribute to loneliness.

Ways to reduce loneliness could be:
๐ŸŒŸSay hello! Donโ€™t be afraid to say hello and introduce yourself.
๐ŸŒŸAsk how to help! Asking what kind of support you can offer encourages accountability and and encourages self control.
๐ŸŒŸGet out! Inviting someone to go for a walk, getting out in nature helps promote wellbeing and encourages conversation.
๐ŸŒŸGet involved in community! Inviting someone to a community event and offering support to do this, encourages connection and reduces isolation.

๐ŸŽ‰ New Volunteer at Walthew House! ๐ŸŽ‰

We are excited to introduce Tom, a new Walthew House

Tom has been partnered with one of our long standing service users. We asked Tom to share his thoughts on his befriending journey so far:

โ€œI was drawn to Walthew House because of its focus on supporting blind and deaf people, which felt personally meaningful to me. I also have a long-standing connection to the charity through family memories, which made it feel like a very natural place to volunteer.

My onboarding experience has been positive, friendly and straightforward. Iโ€™ve felt welcomed and supported, and the role has been clearly explained, which has made it easy to settle in.

My highlight so far has been the befriending match with Ian and getting to know him through our local walks and conversations. Itโ€™s been really rewarding to share relaxed, meaningful time together and see how much he enjoys getting out and about. Especially as he lives in the same neighbourhood my grandmother lived in, where I spent so much time as a child. It has been great to see Ianโ€™s confidence grow, in wanting to explore new areas and visit somewhere he hasnโ€™t been for a while.โ€
