You might recognise this smiling face! 😊

This is Georgi from Healthwatch Stockport Borough, who has been visiting Friendly Fridays, chatting with our community and listening to people's experiences of health and social care.

We've also been keeping in touch by email, sharing information and ideas, and Georgi has now sent us their latest activity report, which brings together feedback from people across Stockport.

And there's some encouraging news! The report includes lots of positive feedback about local health and care services, particularly the kindness of staff, good experiences with GPs and hospitals, and support from community organisations.

Of course, there are challenges too. Getting GP appointments, long waiting lists, NHS dentistry and support for unpaid carers are all issues being raised by people across Stockport.

We wanted to share this because it's worth remembering that if you've experienced these difficulties, you're not alone. People across the borough are facing similar challenges, and sharing our experiences helps highlight where improvements are needed.

It's encouraging to see Healthwatch already taking action on some of the issues raised, and we're really pleased to be building this new partnership.

Last week at Friendly Fridays we had a few visitors, Sarah our local funeral director, Groundworks Manchester were in to help people with energy saving information and we had some people from the Live Well team who came to catch up with our community (they are regular visitors too).

It was a busy one!

There was crafting in our cosy corner, these ladies are frequently making items for the local community, there was a big push on the community jigsaw and it's nearly finished! Delicate diamond painting was happening at our main craft table, there was a lot of concentration going on there.

And as ever our team of volunteers were absolutely amazing. And special thanks to Andrea (washing up) and Claire (helped to serve lunch) who were our purposeful volunteers of the day. Purposeful volunteering is where our visitors offer to do odd jobs over the day. They just ask a volunteer what they can help with or offer to do a task. The help is greatly appreciated thank you ladies.

Quick reminder that we are closed this coming Friday 23rd October as the Rose Walker community centre is having the floor redone. But we will be back for half term on Friday 30th October with hot dogs for lunch, halloween themed crafts and tuck shop treats.

Sarah from Jonathan Alcock and Sons Ltd visited us last Friday and as you can see her lovely pup wanted to get in on the photography session!

We love having Sarah visit us regularly. Friendly Fridays and Jonathan Alcock and Sons Ltd have the same goal to make the conversation around funerals become and every day chat and not something to shy away from.

Sarah shared with us that she was able to help one of our visitors understand a little more about a pure cremation (sometimes referred to as a non-attending cremation) and why people choose this but also how friends and family might feel about this choice.

Grief is a big part of this discussion, our community has lost much beloved members and many of us have lost family or friends. At Jonathan Alcock and Sons, they host a grief cafe in Hazel Grove and they also have a post box outside their office in Cheadle for people to send letters to loved ones that have passed.

Sarah visits us regularly and is always happy to talk to people, if you want an introduction, just reach out to one of our leaders or volunteers.

Sending our thanks to Groundwork Greater Manchester who visited us last Friday to help our community with utitlity questions about energy and water loss (important for those on a meter!).

Some of our visitors set up further appointments with the team for more in depth help and Groundwork plan to come back and visit us again.

Stories from our session last Friday.

We welcomed 50 adults and children to Friendly Fridays last week. Several people went on the Autumn walk lead by Sarah from Capture & Calm Walks. Thanks Sarah we look forward to working with you on future activities and events.

David our resident Cribbage master was given some special playing cards by another visitor "Australian" ones no less so he tested them out last Friday.

Anna (one of our leaders), was roped into helping with the signs for Friendly Fridays 5 ways to well being. It's good to see these back up on the wall again.

And we started prepping for our October half term. How good is that sun catcher? Just one of the many things we will have available to make on 30th October. Oh and by the way it will be hot dogs for lunch that day.

We also began prep work for our Hand made Christmas items. We have pulled together several different small Christmas gifts that people can make and put together to give as presents to loved ones this year. That will begin in November and finish on Dec 4th. Then its our Christmas gathering on 11th Dec.

Just a reminder we are open this week 16th October but we will be closed on Friday, October 23rd.

Well done to one of our leaders Anna, who represented Friendly Fridays at a peer learning event in Manchester recently.

Anna shared our story with a group of people leading other fantastic projects in Manchester.

And of course she demonstrated the 5 ways of well being by getting everyone up off their seat and moving around, sharing stories that made them smile, reminding them how they were giving their time today and learning from each other!

Friendly Fridays was supported by Julian Lomas from Almond Tree Consulting and Mark Rogers from Stockport Homes to become a registered charity this year through the Community Catalyst fund.

We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded an additional £10K to continue our journey to establish a new operational charity with support to become more financially stable and to help our newly formed Trustee board become fully operational. There's lots to do still!

Holly says: "I will be running an art session and there will be other activities ongoing throughout the day including a football activity, bulb planting and an introduction to our Wellbeing and Recovery Action Plan. And a buffet!

The Connect Hub is a safe space for adults who have previously or are currently accessing Secondary Mental Health Services. "
