The votes are now counted in the Scottish elections - so what comes next for nature?

With the new Government in power, we want to see them put nature at the heart of their commitments to the people of Scotland

🌿 Nature has never been more important. In fact, 83% of people say that restoring nature is important or a top priority to them personally.

🌱 Individuals and organisations all over Scotland are taking action for nature by growing their grasses into wildflower lawns for Plantlife’s No Mow Movement.

🌼 Starting this May and looking ahead to 2030, we need the Government to take nature seriously. That means not just celebrating wildflower meadows and farm wildlife, but protecting Scotland’s rainforests, urban green spaces and the everyday nature on our doorsteps.

📢 Now is the moment to make your voice heard. Reach out to your newly elected MSPs and let them know that protecting and restoring nature must be a priority!

Can you spot a wild Daffodil?

DYK the difference between the wild Daffodil and ones you generally see in gardens?🌼

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿While they’re blooming, we thought it’s the best time to share the differences.

💛The wild Daffodil is usually smaller, with paler petals and a deep yellow trumpet-like tube.

👀Look out for this rare type of Daffodil in damp woods, fields, orchards and grassland.

Happy Dandelion Day!🌼

Pretty, yellow and popping up everywhere - these wildflowers are a common sight in spring.🌱

And if you want to see more, pledge to do No Mow May this year! By letting the grass grow longer in your lawn, you’ll help wildlife and hopefully see some pretty dandelions (also a favourite with the bees!).🐝

From temperate rainforests to peatlands, Scotland’s wild places are at a crossroads.

On 7 May, voters will choose the next government and have a chance to turn things around for nature.

Take a look at our key asks of the next Scottish Government:

🌱 Clear targets to restore nature - legal commitments so we can track progress and hold the Government to account.

🚜 Farm support that helps nature, climate and farmers through funding that rewards nature‑friendly farming.

🌾 A Grassland Strategy for Scotland, making the most of the 34% of our land that’s grassland, helping wildlife and storing carbon.

🌧️ Big, long-term investment in Scotland’s rainforest, protecting and restoring this globally important habitat.

🍄 Ongoing funding to save threatened species, including wild plants, lichens and fungi that are vital for healthy ecosystems.

🪴 A ban on selling peat for gardening, protecting precious peatlands and the carbon they store.
