🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⚽ Come on Scotland! ⚽🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

There has been no shortage of football chat at Town Break Dementia Support this week.

At our Bellfield service, people were picking teams, making predictions and debating who might go all the way. And across our services, conversations have been filled with memories of tournaments, favourite players and plenty of excitement about tonight’s match. 💙

It’s been great to see how football has got people talking, sharing stories and enjoying a bit of friendly banter along the way.

We’ll be cheering Scotland on tonight. 🙌

Now the important question…

👀 Who’s staying up to watch it?

💜 Yesterday, 65 people living with dementia were supported by Town Break.

That sounds like a number.

But it isn’t.

It’s the person who was looking forward to seeing friends they’d made at a Town Break service.

It’s the carer who finally got a couple of hours to themselves without worrying.

It’s the volunteer who gave up their time because they wanted to make a difference.

It’s the conversation that started over a cup of tea.

It’s the laughter on a minibus heading to Hopetoun House.

It’s the familiar face waiting at a group in Stirling or Clackmannanshire.

And behind those 65 people?

At least another 65 carers, family members and friends whose lives are also affected by dementia.

That’s more than 130 people in a single day.

Yesterday wasn’t unusual.

It was just another day at Town Break.

A day of friendship. A day of support. A day of community.

A day where nobody had to face things alone.

💜 As Carers Week comes to a close, we’d like to share something that landed in our inbox this week.

A member of one of our carer support groups recently bumped into people they had met through Town Break Dementia Support while attending an appointment.

They stopped for a coffee and a chat together.

Later, they sent us a message saying:

💬 “It gives a sense of belonging and togetherness.”

This year’s Carers Week theme is Building Carer Friendly Communities.

For us, that’s exactly what this looks like.

Not just support during a session, but friendships, connections and a sense of belonging that continue beyond it. 💜

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 ⚽ Come on Scotland! ⚽🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

There was a real buzz at Bellfield today as everyone got behind Scotland in the World Cup.

The football chat started early and didn’t stop. From score predictions to favourite players, there were plenty of opinions being shared and a few friendly disagreements along the way! 😄

What stood out most was the excitement.

Football has a way of bringing people together, sparking conversations and creating shared moments.

Today was one of those days.

Who’s backing Scotland? 👏🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⚽

Things carers have told us over the years ⬇️

💬 “I haven’t had a conversation about me in months.”

🚗 “I sit in the car for five minutes before I go into the house.”

❤️ “I love him with all my heart, but some days are really hard.”

🤝 “I don’t know anyone else going through this.”

💭 “I feel guilty when I leave them.”

💭 “I feel guilty when I stay.”

💜 “I just want someone to understand.”

Over the last 34 years, we’ve heard these words and countless others from carers across Forth Valley.

Not because they’re looking for sympathy.

Not because they’re complaining.

Because caring for someone you love can be complicated.

It can be exhausting. 😔

It can be isolating. 🌧️

And sometimes it can feel like the rest of the world is carrying on as normal while your world has quietly changed.

That’s why Carers Week matters. 💜

Not because carers need one week of recognition.

Because carers need support, understanding and communities that stand beside them all year round. 🫶

And if you’re a carer reading this, here’s one thing we’ve learned after thousands of conversations:

✨ You are not the only one feeling the way you do.

In 10 years’ time, more people than ever will be living with dementia.

The question is: Who will help shape the support they’ll receive?

💜

Town Break Dementia Support is looking for a new Chair of our Board of Trustees.

This isn’t just a governance role.

It’s an opportunity to help shape the future of dementia support across Forth Valley, leading an organisation that has spent the last 34 years supporting people living with dementia and unpaid carers to stay connected, active and part of their communities.

If you can bring strategic leadership, sound judgement and a passion for making a difference, we’d love to start a conversation.
