📚 Semester Update

The busiest part of the semester is almost over, and what a busy few weeks it has been! 💙

This semester, we’ve welcomed 96 students and are running 20 morning classes, 2 evening classes and 6 online classes, including IELTS and English for Healthcare.

Behind every class is an incredible team of volunteers: 28 tutors, 9 tutor assistants, 6 supply tutors, 2 crèche volunteers and an office volunteer, alongside our creche coordinator.

Among our 96 students are 46 refugees, as well as 20 Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC): 5 from Stirling and 15 from Falkirk.

🌟 A huge thank you to every volunteer who gives their time, energy and skills to support our students. Your contribution helps create a welcoming place where people can learn, build confidence and connect with their community.

The busiest weeks may be almost over, but there’s still plenty to do! 💪📖

☀️🎉 That's a wrap for Summer School 2026! 🎉☀️

Our Summer School came to a fantastic close on Friday 31st July, and what an incredible few weeks it has been! 📚💙

During Weeks 3 and 4, students across all levels developed their English through engaging lessons on education, jobs, language, the natural world and the environment. 🌍🗣️ They took part in discussions, role plays, grammar games, presentations and creative activities, growing in confidence every day. 🌟

🚌 One of the highlights was our excursion to Anstruther and St Andrews, where students explored local history, enjoyed the seaside and practised their English outside the classroom. ⚓🏖️🎓

A huge thank you to all of our amazing volunteer tutors and coordinators ❤️ for your dedication, enthusiasm and hard work throughout the Summer School. And thank you to our wonderful students: you made this summer so special! 👏💙

🌞 Two fantastic weeks of Summer School! 📚🌍

Our Summer School students have made an excellent start, building their English skills while exploring Scottish culture, health and wellbeing, and making new friendships along the way.

✨ Week 1 focused on all things Scotland! Students explored Scottish attractions, food, festivals, films and traditions through discussions, games, presentations, role-play and interactive language activities. It was a great opportunity for everyone to settle in, build confidence and get to know each other.

🚌 On Wednesday 15th, students enjoyed a fantastic trip to the V&A Museum in Dundee, making the most of the beautiful sunny weather. It was a wonderful opportunity to experience Scotland's world-renowned design museum, spend time together outside the classroom, and practise English in a real-life setting.

✨ Week 2 shifted the focus to Health and Wellbeing, with students across all levels discussing healthy habits, exercise, mental health, healthcare, food and lifestyle. From debating whether pills could replace exercise, to practising dentist and doctor conversations, completing health quizzes, and learning new vocabulary through games and group work, students developed their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in engaging and meaningful ways.

We're especially pleased to see students growing in confidence every day, participating enthusiastically in class, supporting one another and challenging themselves to use English in a variety of real-life situations.

A huge thank you to all our tutors for creating such positive, interactive learning environments. We look forward to two exciting weeks ahead! 🌟
