This morning we hosted a quarterly all staff briefing at our Stirling hub to reflect on our activity over the past few months and look ahead to what's coming up in the future.

It was brilliant to have so many of the team join us in person (and online) to hear from Barry Fisher and Paul Wallace from our Executive Team, as well as Tom Brock OBE from our Board.

We were delighted to also welcome back our former colleague Kathryn Gill who delivered an insightful presentation on her work as part of her role at Consumer Scotland and how we can help people support Scotland's net zero and circular economy ambitions.

We rounded off the session with a wonderful One Planet Picnic, featuring exceptional home made dishes including lentil salsa, red pepper relish and oatcakes, chocolate Guinness cake and much, much more 😋

Today officially marks one year since the ban on the sale of single-use vapes in Scotland.

While a positive decrease in littered vapes has been recorded in Scotland, alongside a 9% decrease across the UK, there remains ongoing challenges of disposing of vapes safely and capturing precious resources via recycling, alongside tackling the ever present and harmful issue of smoking-related litter.

So, has the ban made a difference to you? We asked, you answered.

While we are glad to see a decrease in littered vapes through our audits, we know more needs to be done. We, alongside Less Waste Laura, the Marine Conservation Society and ASH Scotland, are calling for further action to protect people and our environment.

All over Scotland people are doing things that are helping their communities adapt to what climate change is bringing.

We’ve seen massive temperature spikes across the UK this week – records being broken for heat and yet very few are making the link between climate change and all aspects of our lives.

The Climate Change Committee published a report last week that said by 2050 – that is only 24 years away – 92% of homes are likely to overheat and we will have massive water supply shortfalls every day.

If we don’t invest now the cost in the future of picking up the pieces is likely to be upwards of £60billion a year.

But it isn’t all bad news, because the key actions needed have already been outlined by the committee and already work across society is supporting people and businesses adapt.
We know from our work with members of the Climate and Nature Friendly Communities Network, and schools that are part of the Climate Action Schools programme that brilliant things are happening and that with the right information and support behaviours shift, conversations happen, and people connect to nature and each other.

We’re looking forward to continuing our support to combat climate change and will keep providing practical support that will help communities to become more resilient in the future.

We're delighted to share the 52 winners of this year's Scotland's Beach Awards 🏖️

Alongside some beaches that have been recognised for more than 10, 20 and even 30 consecutive years, we wanted to highlight a few who are celebrating their 20th award win in 2026 👏

Barry Fisher, our CEO, said: “Scotland's Beach Awards are the benchmark for quality, celebrating clean, well-managed and sustainable beaches. Our award-winning beaches are all beautiful but seeing that flag flying means visitors can be assured that they are being looked after for people and nature.

“It is amazing to see the consistency of standards and continuation of award status matters to those who apply year after year, and I’d like to thank all those, in councils and communities, who do so much to protect, maintain and enhance our beaches, protecting the sand and sea for us all to enjoy.

“Our Beach Managers network meets twice a year and gathered online and in person on 28 May to prepare for the season ahead. With speakers from Scottish Government, SEPA, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and more, it is inspiring to hear how everyone works together to overcome challenges and make our award winning beaches the best they can be.

"We’re always looking for new beaches to join the award network, so if you think yours meets the standards, please do get in touch with us for support.”

More tools and resources will soon be available to inspire climate and nature action and improve local environmental quality in neighbourhoods across Scotland thanks to new funding.

The RHS - Royal Horticultural Society, in partnership with Hubbub and Social Farms & Gardens - Ffermydd a Gerddi Cymdeithasol, have been awarded the largest-ever grant from the National Lottery Community Fund’s Climate Action Fund.

We're looking forward to supporting this exciting news and helping community gardeners understand the amazing work they do for places, climate and nature alongside all members of the Climate and Nature Friendly Communities Network in Scotland.
