Prime Tick Season

Prime Tick Season

Did you know there’s a national Tick Surveillance Scheme in the UK you can take part in?

It has been tracking ticks since 2005, helping the UK Health Security Agency understand their distribution, seasonal activity, and which species pose the greatest risk to humans and animals.

By sending in a tick you find on yourself, a pet, or wildlife, you’re helping:
• Monitor tick distribution and seasonality nationwide
• Identify the diversity of ticks affecting humans and animals
• Detect non-native or rare UK tick species
• Contribute to distribution maps that support research and public health assessments

All records are publicly available via the National Biodiversity Network (NBN) gateway, meaning your contribution helps scientists, vets, and health professionals better understand tick exposure trends over time.

📬 Getting involved is simple — submit a tick with details of where and when it was found and help protect people and animals across the UK.
Every tick you send is a step toward stronger awareness, safer communities, and better public health.

The Friends of Plean Country Park are currently looking for a minute taker for our meetings which take place every two months and last around two hours, and in addition we have a short AGM generally in June. This is an important role within our group and there is also an option to become a voting member as a Trustee if that’s of interest to you.
If this sounds like something you’d like to be part of or would like further information, please get in touch. And please feel free to share with your network — it’s greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Under 7 weeks until our fun day 😃

In order for this to happen we need helpers on the day to help with setting up stalls and rides, also set up in the morning and tidy up after.
Please share the word

Also have a look in cupboards for any unwanted gifts towards our raffle and tombola’s.

Our fun days are amazing… but let’s make this the best yet!!!

An amazing day for all the family. ❤️

Volunteers having to retrieve items from the dipping pond seems to be on the increase. Last week it was a picnic blanket. We would like to think it wasn't put there deliberately but please make sure if you visit the park you take your belongings home with you. We would also like to ask people not to put branches and tree tubes into any of the ponds and watercourses. Thank you.

Please read this week’s run report, which has a focus on volunteering, as last week was Volunteers’ Week.

Also, a water bottle was found on one of the benches by the finish area. If it belongs to you, please contact [email protected]

Please consider volunteering at Plean or a parkrun near you!

The Friends of Plean Country Park held their AGM today followed by a thank you lunch. It was a great afternoon and good chat with some of our volunteers who work hard all year round to make the place more enjoyable for both visitors and regular park users. Our first time at making fresh pizzas made in the pizza oven, with baked potatoes from the fire pit, a salad bar and followed by lots of tasty puddings with too many calories to count. A few of us went for a walk later along to the meadow to check for Greater Butterfly orchids for our forthcoming annual count planned for Sunday 5th July. We did find our first one of the year so there will be hundreds by our count day. We also noticed a big increase in Yellow rattle and found a Twayblade which is also an orchid and as it's name suggests it has two leaves. A selection of pictures of the AGM followed by the Greater Butterfly orchid the Twayblade and Yellow Rattle
