Join us and explore the fungi of the Park with fungus expert Szymon Szyszczakiewicz of Foragerium.
Szymon is a biologist, forager, wild plants educator, and member of the Association of Foragers.

The sun-loving Cinnabar is our species of the month!

Scientific name 🔬: Tyria jacobaeae

Wingspan 📏: 34-46mm

Flies 🦋: April to August

Eats 🐛: Common Ragwort, Marsh Ragwort and Hoary Ragwort, as well as Coltsfoot and Groundsel.

Lives 🏡: Open grassy habitats, including waste ground. They can also be found on railway banks, gardens and woodland rides, as well as sand dunes and heathland.

Amazing fact 🤩: Cinnabar caterpillars are very distinctive with bright orange and black stripes, but this isn’t just for show. Their bright colours warn predators that they’re toxic to eat!

UPDATE THE CHAIRS HAVE BEEN REMOVED - Thank you

Do you recognise this area in the park where fly tipping has taken place. If you come across it when in the park and use What 3 words it would be really helpful if you could post details of the position.
The person who reported it to us last week,entered the park at the Glen Road entrance and turned to the right up the hill onto the horse trail. The area is apparently a bit more than half way up in the bushes on the higher ground. On Saturday two of our volunteers tried to find it but with no luck unfortunately. Thanks for your help.

The Friends of Plean Country Park carry out many of the tasks and are responsible for a number of projects in the park which make the park the place it is, for everyone to use. What we don't appreciate however is, particularly when we are looking up and cutting back branches which are overhanging branches, to find bags of dog poo on the ground at our feet. Many of our volunteers are dog owners too and would not consider, for any reason, leaving bags of dog dirt at the edges of paths. There are plenty of dog poo bins as well as other bins which are all multi use, so there really is no excuse. We also ask that all dog owners clean up after their animals, particularly when in the core areas of the park where Stirling Council staff cut the grass and children run about and play. Please think of others when you visit the park so that everyone can enjoy it.
