Stirling will mark Armed Forces Day on Saturday 13 June with a military procession through the city centre to Victoria Square.

Arrangements for Stirling’s Armed Forces Day have been organised by The Royal British Legion Scotland (RBLS), the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Museum, the Royal Navy T42 Associations and Stirling Council.

The event will start with a reception and welcome at Stirling Castle, followed by the parade that will be open to all serving, veteran and cadet personnel.

The parade will step off from Stirling Castle at noon and make its way down St John Street and Spittal Street and along Dumbarton Road, before finishing at Victoria Square.

On Victoria Square, the pipe bands will perform a short display on the grass in front of the Lord Provost and senior military guests. Spectators will be able to watch from the raised pavement area around the grass.

There will be a range of military charity stalls and military information stalls on Victoria Square from 10.30am-3.30pm, with special thanks to the Cowane Trust for the use of Victoria Square on the day.

Parade participants include, among others, HMS Stirling Castle, Balaklava Company 5 SCOTS, 7 SCOTS, Armed Forces Veterans, The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Cadet Battalion, Air Force Cadets, Queen Victoria School Pipe Band, dancers and Combined Cadet Force.

Lord Provost Rosemary Fraser said: “On Armed Forces Day, we pay tribute to the courage, professionalism and sacrifice of the men and women who serve, or have served, in our Armed Forces. We also recognise the vital contribution made by veterans, reservists and military families across Stirling and beyond.

“As a community, we are proud to stand alongside them and to thank them for all they have given in service. Armed Forces Day is an opportunity for us all to show our gratitude and respect.”

The Lord-Lieutenant of Stirling and Falkirk, Col Charlie Wallace, said: “Armed Forces Day serves as a reminder of our collective commitment to work hard for our peace and to thank those who are and have been prepared to commit themselves to it.”

John Bell, the Stirling Branch Treasurer of RBLS added: “Armed Forces Day gives veterans and those currently serving a chance to show their pride in their commitment to the Armed Forces.”

💬 Residents, sports clubs and employers across Stirling are being encouraged to have their say on the future of sport, physical activity and wellbeing in the area before 31 May to inform a new long-term strategy.

The consultation, led by Stirling Council, will help shape how people access and experience physical activity, leisure and wellbeing opportunities across Stirling in the years ahead.

The consultation forms part of a wider review into how leisure and wellbeing services can better meet the needs of local communities.

The new sport, physical activity and health strategy aims to create a healthier, more active Stirlingshire where everyone regardless of age, ability or background has the opportunity to move more and feel well.

Convener of Stirling Council’s Community Wellbeing Committee, Cllr Brian Hambly said: “We share the national vision of a Scotland where more people are more active more often. Taking part in this important consultation before the deadline is a step towards achieving that and shaping how sport and activity can work across our area.

“Whether you are a resident, are involved in sport or leisure clubs or an employer in the area, you can have your say on the strengths of what is currently out there and also help show the gaps that need to be addressed.”

“We want to hear from everyone across Stirling, active or not. Your feedback will help us create a Stirling where being active is easy, enjoyable and part of everyday life.”
