Obsessed with the grins from our LGBTQ+ DIY class when the shelves go up! This course breaks down the mysticism and fear around electric drills and teaches step-by-step guides of putting up shelves (or anything on the wall) at home. We’ve had amazing feedback of people springboarding from this course onto gaining so much more confidence of DIY at home and taking on tasks and fixes they never thought possible! We have another of these workshops available in the 5th of July, and our next lgbtq+ only version will be coming later in the summer/autumn.

These courses are made radically financially accessible thanks to our grant fund from

Our third release of our Craft Summer ‘26, a workshop for adults and young people! Join Georjie (she/they) to learn how to make a bug hotel!

Would you like to spend the day with a young person in your life (8-15yr old), learning empowering and creative woodworking skills together? This course will guide you both through the process of creating your own bug hotel. You will learn to use hand saws and drills, while also having the opportunity to contribute your creative ideas to the project. The session is designed to be gentle-paced with supportive facilitation, and offers the unique opportunity to set gender diverse role models around tool useage, an important messaging to your young pal!

A bug hotel is a carefully constructed structure made from natural materials such as wood, bamboo, pinecones, and stones. These habitats offer safe spaces for beneficial insects, including solitary bees, butterflies, ladybirds, and other pollinators, to nest, rest, or hibernate. Incorporating a bug hotel into your garden can help support biodiversity and contribute to a healthier outdoor ecosystem.

Join our joinery tutor Rae to learn the age-old skill of brushmaking!

Brushmaking in the UK dates back to medieval times when artisans created brushes using natural materials like animal hair and wooden handles. These early brushes were primarily used for domestic chores, painting, and personal grooming. Today, handmade brushes are sought after by professionals in fields like fine art, woodworking, and traditional shaving. There is also growing interest in sustainable, plastic-free alternatives, leading to a renewed appreciation for handmade brushes. (excerpt from Heritage Crafts)

After learning about different uk timber species, together we will work through different shaping techniques, using jigsaws, straight and curved knives, rasps and spokeshaves. Then we will learn different methods for adding bristles - stitched and glued, before trimming your bristles of your finished brush! Set in our peaceful and inspiring workshop space, this course will prioritise creativity, no two brushes will be alike.

Sliding scale ticket prices £55-95. Low income tickets are for those financially struggling and low-income/unemployed.

Shrink Pot Making Workshop! July 26th 🪵

We’re excited to announce the first workshop release of our Craft Summer ‘26, where current and visiting tutors will be teaching new and unique courses bringing you the joy and wonder of woodwork (and possibly more mediums!)

Taught by , Shrink pots originate from Scandinavia and are primarily used in the kitchen for dry goods or utensils but can have many purposes. Carved from locally sourced windblown wood. It’s a great introduction to greenwood work.

Using traditional hand tools and a drill, we will hollow out a greenwood log and then fit a seasoned wood base inside it. This will create a pot/container as the greenwood dries out the base will become secure.

We will cover drying techniques for when your shrink pot is drying at home as wood is an unpredictable material.

Finally, we will cover finishing and refining your shrink pot further when it’s finished drying and how to choose the right wood to make more.

Q***r Grounds (1)

We were delighted to collaborate with as part of their ‘Q***r Grounds’ youth project, which invited lgbtq+ youth to think about practices, spaces and connections that sustain their community. It turned out to be a beautiful melding of photography, woodcraft and community building - the group were able to engage and learn from our built environment, and use that inspiration to take beautiful photos on a variety of cameras. We used 100% reclaimed construction wasted timber and the toolboxes were built by hand!

There was space to relax and be quiet, space to build and make, and space to be amongst each other in our little sanctuary. They went on to exhibit their photos and toolboxes at an installation at !

Massive thanks to , .kay and Phoebe Wingrove for facilitating with us and generously sharing all these beautiful photos.
