Juggling life, love, and family: The hearts behind June’s Wish 🤍✨

Following on from their beautiful wedding day photos, we wanted to share this next wonderful chapter of the lives of Julie's mum and dad - the very hearts of June’s Wish.

Look at these treasured memories of them starting their family! Just like so many of us, they were right in the thick of it: juggling jobs, raising family, and still making time for their own passions, hobbies, and pursuits. They lived such full, active, and vibrant lives, pouring so much love into everything they did.

When dementia enters a family's life, it can be easy for the world to only see the diagnosis. But at June’s Wish, we remember that every individual living with dementia has a rich history full of hard work, laughter, triumphs, and beautiful ordinary days.

That is exactly why we do what we do. We don’t focus on the limitations of the later stages of dementia; we focus on honouring the incredible people they have always been. Our wishes are tailored to connect back to those deep-rooted memories, hobbies, and joys that defined their lives.

Every time we help a family capture a moment of peace and joy today, we are honouring the busy, beautiful life that Julie’s mum and dad built together. Thank you for helping us keep their legacy alive. 💙

Where our story begins: Remembering the hearts behind June’s Wish 🤍✨

Today, we are looking back at these beautiful, treasured photos from the wedding day of our founder Julie’s beloved mum and dad. Looking at their bright smiles, you can see a lifetime of love, hope, and shared dreams just beginning.

Sadly, both of Julie’s parents faced their own challenging battles with dementia later in life, and have since passed away.

Their lives, and the love they shared, are the exact reason June's Wish exists today.

We built this charity in their memory to ensure that other families navigating the later stages of a dementia journey can experience moments of pure magic. Whether it's a simple trip down memory lane, a favourite piece of music, or a special day out, we are dedicated to granting meaningful wishes that bring dignity, comfort, and a reason to smile.

Thank you for walking alongside us and helping us keep their beautiful memory alive. 💙

A beautiful afternoon at The Red Shed Project! 🌸

Today being the first Tuesday of the month, our wonderful Julie went along to visit The Red Shed Project in Stevenage. For those who don't know them, they are a fantastic non-profit dementia garden for wellbeing, providing a beautiful, safe space for people living with dementia and their carers. 🏡

Julie had the best time talking to the lovely carers, visitors, and volunteers all about the work we do at June's Wish. We were so touched by the incredible interest and the warm, open conversations about how we can better support more families on this journey.

Of course, no community visit is complete without a proper catch-up - Julie was treated to a lovely cuppa and a slice of absolutely delicious fruit cake! 🍰☕️

We are so grateful to the team at The Red Shed for letting us share our passion with your group today. You are doing amazing work for the dementia community in Hertfordshire!

👇 Take a look through the lovely photos Julie captured of the gorgeous garden, the project, and the famous red shed itself!

Last night I had the privilege of being the after-dinner speaker for the Rotary Club of Stevenage Grange, sharing the story behind June's Wish and raising awareness of dementia and the realities faced by families living with the condition.

It was wonderful to meet Club President Peter Tippett, Vice-President Mariana Gomez, Secretary Joe Reale, Treasurer Peter Brown, and so many other members.

What struck me most was the passion in the room. This is a group of people who quietly do so much incredible work in the community, giving their time, skills and energy to support others and make a real difference. It was inspiring to hear about the projects they are involved in and the impact they have across the local area.

Thank you for the warm welcome, the thoughtful questions, and the opportunity to talk about June's Wish. It was a genuine privilege to spend the evening with you all, and I look forward to staying in touch.

We’re incredibly proud to share that June’s Wish has been awarded the Fundraising Regulator badge. 💜

This shows our commitment to fundraising in a way that is honest, transparent, respectful and accountable — giving our supporters confidence that we meet the standards expected of registered charities.

As a small charity born from personal experience of dementia, every donation, fundraiser and act of kindness means the world to us. Being part of the Fundraising Regulator is another important step in helping us grow June’s Wish and continue creating special moments and lasting memories for people living with dementia and their families.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support us on this journey. 💜

Think dementia only affects the elderly? You aren't alone, but it’s a misconception we need to talk about. 💙

According to Dementia UK, roughly 70,800 people in the UK are living with early-onset dementia (diagnosed before age 65).

For someone in their 40s or 50s, early signs like memory loss, language struggles, or mood changes are frequently mistaken for everyday stress, delaying a vital diagnosis.

A younger person’s life looks different - they are often still working, paying mortgages, and raising families. The care that works for an 85-year-old won't fit the life of a 45-year-old. They need specialised, age-appropriate support.

If you notice persistent changes in memory or behaviour, always consult a healthcare professional. Early diagnosis unlocks the door to the right planning.

A huge thank you to Val Foley for inviting us to the beautiful Elstow Manor Care Home, Wixams for Dementia Action Week. It was a privilege to have the opportunity to talk to residents, families and members of the community about June’s Wish and why the charity means so much to us.

It was also incredibly moving to have some one-to-one conversations about Lewy body dementia, sharing experiences and helping raise awareness of a condition that still isn’t widely understood.

Great to meet representatives from the Tibbs Dementia Foundation and we look forward to continuing the conversation.

Wonderful too to meet Sally Marais from Training2care, who brought along the Dementia Bus experience. Everyone should experience this at least once — it gives such a powerful insight into how people living with dementia can perceive and experience the world around them.

Thank you again to everyone who took the time to stop, chat and support June’s Wish. 💜
