🌱 More trees. Healthier vines. A brighter future for nature! 🌳
Château Montus are on a mission to bring nature and biodiversity back into the vineyard!

With increasingly hot summers creating new challenges for w**egrowers, they're looking to nature for the answers.

With support over three years, they hope to plant over 340 metres of trees and hedgerows throughout their vineyard.

These will help provide natural nutrients, shade and moisture for the vines, while creating habitats for wildlife and natural predators that help keep vineyard pests under control.

🦆 100 ducks making a difference in the vineyard! 🌱
Sometimes the smallest projects can make the biggest difference!
Meet Rustenberg, one of our 2025 Climate & Nature Programme winners, with a rather wonderful approach to protecting their vines – Indian Runner Ducks! 🦆

Snails and mealybugs can cause real damage in the vineyard, but rather than relying on synthetic sprays, viticulturalist Tessa Van Zyl and her team are letting nature lend a helping hand.

🌱 Their Climate & Nature Programme project?

Building on the success of their first flock of 20 ducks, Rustenberg are introducing 100 more Indian Runner Ducks to help manage pests naturally, reduce pesticide use and improve soil health.

More ducks. Fewer pests. Healthier vineyards.

It's a brilliant example of how working with nature can make a real difference.

🌱 Introducing a new chapter for our Climate & Nature Programme!

This year, Society members have the chance to vote for which projects we support.

The Climate & Nature Programme provides an annual fund our growers can access to support nature-based projects in their vineyards. Last year Luís Patrão and Eduarda Dias of Vadio W**es in Portugal’s Bairrada received funding to continue their journey towards regenerative viticulture.

After achieving organic certification in 2024, their next steps include planting native trees and shrubs, introducing multispecies cover crops across the vineyards and creating new habitats for wildlife.

For Luís, though, the ambition goes beyond their own 10 hectares. Vadio wants to become a catalyst for change in Bairrada, sharing what they learn with the region’s many small growers and encouraging a more nature-focused approach to farming.

Meet Château Monconseil Gazin, one of our 2024 Climate & Nature Programme winners, making a real difference for biodiversity in the vineyard!
Already committed to sustainability, this Bordeaux estate is taking things one step further by bringing even more nature back into its vineyards.
🌳 Their Climate & Nature Programme project?
Planting nearly 1,000 metres of new hedgerows made up of native shrubs, creating vital habitats for wildlife while helping absorb carbon from the atmosphere.
It's a wonderful example of how small changes in the vineyard can make a lasting difference for the environment.
