Supporting wellbeing and connection in Stevenage 🤍

Stevenage Community Trust is delighted to have awarded £4,500 to Caring Herts CIC towards the continued running of its Stevenage Wellbeing Hub.

Caring Herts supports older members of the North Hertfordshire and Stevenage community who may be experiencing loneliness or social isolation, helping them build confidence, stay active and enjoy life to the fullest.

The Wellbeing Hub offers seated exercise alongside companionship, advice, a listening ear and, most importantly, plenty of fun!

This preventative service plays an important role in creating a healthier, happier and more resilient community for Stevenage’s ageing population. We’re proud to support its valuable work.

Protecting Walkern’s History for Future Generations

We’re delighted to have awarded £540 to Walkern History Society towards a new specialist software system for the Walkern Heritage Centre (Pigeon Hut).

The new system will enable committee members to professionally catalogue, record and safeguard the fascinating artefacts and historical collections housed at the centre.

Importantly, it will also help the Society to share Walkern’s history more easily with the local community, while ensuring these important pieces of village heritage are properly preserved for generations to come.

It’s fantastic to see how even relatively small grants can make a lasting difference to local organisations and the communities they serve.

Proud to support Walkern History Society in protecting and sharing our local heritage.

Supporting Aston Bowls Club 🎳

Stevenage Community Trust is delighted to have awarded £359.90 to Aston Bowls Club towards a new drag brush and painting materials to help maintain its green and facilities.

The club provides much more than a place to play bowls. It offers comradeship, stimulation and a welcoming community space, with its pavilion also used by a variety of local groups throughout the year.

Keeping the green playable is essential to the club’s future, but with the rising costs of maintenance, insurance and general running expenses, this is becoming increasingly challenging for a small community club.

Aston Bowls Club said:

“We are most grateful to the Trust for the grant. It is exceedingly difficult to keep our small club going with the price increase that occur each year. All of the money received from our subs and rentals is taken up by green maintenance, insurances etc. Without organisations like yours it would be difficult, if not impossible, for us to continue to serve the community. Thank you once again“

We’re proud that even a relatively small grant can make a meaningful difference, helping valued local organisations like Aston Bowls Club continue to thrive and bring people together.

💙 A lovely letter of thanks from Living Paintings

We were delighted to receive a wonderful letter from Living Paintings, following a £1,000 grant from Stevenage Community Trust to support their vital work with children who are blind and visually impaired in Stevenage.

Living Paintings provides a free postal library service, helping make books, stories and learning experiences more accessible to children with severe sight loss.

The feedback shared with us really demonstrates the difference this support can make:

💬 “The resources have been fantastic! The opportunity to have access to these has been really beneficial for both children.”

Another parent shared:

💬 “My daughter loves books in general and Living Paintings books are far more accessible. She reads these alongside her sighted sister and friends and loves it.”

Thank you to everyone at Living Paintings for taking the time to write to us and, more importantly, for the incredible work you do. 💙

It’s wonderful to see how funding from Stevenage Community Trust is helping to make a meaningful difference to children and families in our local community.

Supporting connection, one cup of coffee at a time 💚

We’re delighted to have awarded a £500 grant to Symonds Green Community Centre to help fund the repair and servicing of their café coffee machine.

For many people in the local community, the café is so much more than a place to grab a coffee. It’s a welcoming social hub where people can meet, chat and feel connected, helping to tackle loneliness and isolation.

The café is enjoyed by a wonderful mix of people, including older residents, young families, people who are new to the area and customers from a local residential home.

The team at Symonds Green Community Centre told us:

💬 “I would like to say a massive thank you to SCT for the funding. This funding allowed us to continue to open our café which is managed by our charity and suffering greatly in the current economic climate. The coffee machine is such a big part of the café and without having it serviced and maintained, we would not be able to provide the social hub that the café is for so many people in the area. We have a large population of elderly persons and young families in Symonds Green, and the café reduces isolation and loneliness in the area and all visitors to the area.”

They added that the café plays an important role in reducing loneliness and isolation across Symonds Green, providing a friendly and welcoming place for everyone to come together.

We’re proud to support community spaces like this and the people who make them so special. 💚☕️

Supporting brighter futures for local children 🌟

Stevenage Community Trust is delighted to have awarded £3,000 to Walkern Pre-school towards the creation of a brand-new outdoor classroom.

The additional learning space will help the pre-school meet growing demand from families accessing the Government's 30 hours funded childcare, enabling the setting to offer more places to local children.

With over 60 children already attending a variety of sessions each week, the new outdoor classroom will provide valuable extra space for learning, play and development, helping even more young children benefit from the fantastic opportunities Walkern Pre-school provides.

We are proud to support projects that invest in our community's future and give children the best possible start in life.

Celebrating 40 years of Spruse Stevenage Reuse Scheme and a fantastic community event!

We're proud to have supported Spruse with funding to help celebrate their 40th Birthday, bringing together hundreds of local people for a day filled with fun, laughter and community spirit.

Thanks to the funding, around 350 local residents enjoyed a fantastic day featuring:

🎡 Traditional fairground games
🥤 Free refreshments
🛋️ Half-price furniture and white goods
🤝 The chance to learn more about the valuable services Spruse provides to our community.

The team at Spruse shared:
"We are extremely grateful for the funding received from Stevenage Community Trust. As a non-profit charity, the additional expense would have been difficult to achieve, and this support helped remove the financial strain while enabling us to provide a fun-filled day for the community."

Congratulations to everyone at Spruse on reaching this incredible 40-year milestone. We're delighted to have played a small part in helping create such a memorable day for the local community and look forward to supporting your important work in the future.

Bringing people together, one journey at a time 🚗

We're delighted to see the positive impact of a recent grant awarded to North Herts & Stevenage CVS, helping to deliver a special social gathering for users and supporters of their Community Transport service.

Thanks to the funding from Stevenage Community Trust, around 40 local residents enjoyed a wonderful summer tea party – bringing together service users, volunteer drivers and the staff team for an afternoon of conversation, laughter, refreshments and new friendships.

For many older adults and people with limited mobility, opportunities to socialise can be limited. This event highlighted that Community Transport is about so much more than getting from A to B – it's about providing care, companionship, confidence and connection.

We're also pleased to hear such positive feedback about our grant programme:

"We are so grateful to Stevenage Community Trust for their support. This grant enabled us to host a wonderful Tea Party for our regular service users; an event, which for our service, was the first of its kind."

It's fantastic to see our grants making a real difference to organisations that are strengthening our community and tackling social isolation.
