The Muster Point is a veteran-led support group in Stevenage, providing camaraderie, guidance, and assistance for ex-service personnel. We host weekly meetups (Tuesdays, 10 AM-12 PM at Fairlands Valley Lakes), offering a safe space to connect, share experiences, and access mental health, financial, and employment support.

Today marks 62 years since the formation of the Royal Anglian Regiment.

Down here in Hertfordshire, the Royal Anglians are our local regiment, and we’re proud to have plenty of former Anglians as part of The Muster Point community.

Since forming on 1st September 1964, generations of Royal Anglians have served around the world, from Northern Ireland and the Balkans to Iraq and Afghanistan.

So to all Royal Anglians, past and present, happy Formation Day from everyone at The Muster Point.

Every unit had one.

PTI, diver, adventure training instructor, qualified on every weapon system going... even managed to get on the elusive motorbike course.

Twenty years in the Army and somehow never deployed anywhere.

Walts always make the Army sound far too exciting.

Anyone who actually served knows most of it was boredom, avoiding unnecessary jobs and finding increasingly stupid ways to entertain each other.

That’s the bit they never research.

Four words that have stayed with me since Afghanistan.

Fight hard. Die free.

For me, they were never about dying. They were about refusing to give up, no matter how hard the battle gets.

Last year we made a Christmas song.

Apparently, once wasn’t enough.

This week we started recording this year’s song, We’re Still Here, with the first group of veterans getting into the studio.

There’s a lot more to come, and I’m keeping some of it quiet for now.

But it’s officially underway.

I’ll put last year’s Christmas song in the comments for anyone who wants to see where this all started.

The Army had a very efficient learning system. One person messed up, everyone heard about it, and everyone learnt from it.
