Healthwatch Hertfordshire We are Hertfordshire's independent health and social care champion. We’re Hertfordshire's independent health and social care champion.

We make sure NHS leaders and other decision-makers hear your voice and use your feedback to improve care. If you use GPs and hospitals, dentists, pharmacies, care homes or other support services, we want to hear from you. We listen to your needs, experiences and concerns about local health and social care services, so we can speak out on your behalf. We gather your feedback through high-quality research and engagement and by inviting you to share your experiences. Our aim is to get services right for the future and ensure your worries and concerns about current services are addressed. We want to make sure those in charge put you at the heart of care and, if local needs are not being met, we have statutory powers to hold the system to account. We can also help if you have a question about health or social care services, but aren’t sure where to go to find the answer. Our experienced signposting team can help – whether you need to know how to make a complaint, how to access a service, or would like to give feedback. You can be confident that we are entirely independent and impartial and anything you share with us is confidential. We can only do our job with your help.

Have you, a family member or someone you support had a Care Act assessment in Hertfordshire? Or are you an unpaid carer with experience of adult social care?

Healthwatch Hertfordshire wants to hear about people's experience β€” from the moment they asked for help through to receiving care and support.

The survey is aimed at anyone in Hertfordshire, regardless of their level of experience of social care. You are welcome to take part whether or not you have ever had a needs assessment, and whether or not you think of yourself as a carer.

πŸ“ Our survey takes just 5 minutes to complete.

We want to understand:
β€’ What is working well
β€’ Where people face challenges
β€’ What could be improved
β€’ Whether people are getting the care and support they need

Your experiences will help Healthwatch Hertfordshire understand what needs to change. Findings will be shared with local decision-makers and system leaders to help improve adult social care services across Hertfordshire.

Please also share this post with anyone in Hertfordshire who may have experience of adult social care.

Every response helps build a clearer picture of people's experiences and makes sure local voices are heard. ❀️

Back in 2023 our report, Heart Health: Views and Experiences of Hertfordshire Residents, gathered insights from around 230 people, highlighting challenges with recognising symptoms, getting a diagnosis and accessing care.

🚩 Our findings revealed significant barriers to accessing heart health care for people aged 18–44, particularly men, and people from an Asian ethnic background.

πŸ’¬ One resident shared their experience of treatment being delayed because they were considered too young, despite a strong family history of heart disease.

πŸ“’ Our research helped drive positive change across Hertfordshire, including:

🩺 Thousands of digital blood pressure monitors distributed to GP surgeries.
πŸ“ˆ A 33% increase in blood pressure readings in some areas.
πŸ’™ Campaigns encouraging people to get their blood pressure checked for free at a pharmacy.
🀝 More collaborative work to improve blood pressure checks and awareness across health services.

High blood pressure often has no symptoms, and heart health concerns should never be dismissed because of age.

Everyone deserves to be heard and have access to the care they need.

πŸ’œ World Menopause Month πŸ’œ

Menopause is a natural stage of life, but for many women, getting the right information, support and healthcare can still be a challenge.

This World Menopause Month, we're recognising the experiences of women across Hertfordshire who have shared their stories with us. Their voices have helped shine a light on what's working well – and where improvements are still needed.

In 2023, we spoke to 560 women about their experiences of perimenopause and menopause. Many told us they wanted healthcare professionals to:
βœ”οΈ Listen to their concerns
βœ”οΈ Take symptoms seriously
βœ”οΈ Have better training and understanding of menopause
βœ”οΈ Provide consistent access to high-quality support, regardless of where they live

As a result of this work, we published our "Let's Talk About the Menopause" report and called for improvements to GP training and awareness, helping to ensure women's experiences inform future healthcare.

Good mental health matters every day. This World Mental Health Day, we're reflecting on what people across Hertfordshire have told us over the past few years – and how their experiences have helped shape better services.

From supporting people as restrictions eased after the pandemic, to highlighting the experiences of carers, autistic adults, people affected by substance use, refugees and asylum seekers, and those facing wider health inequalities, Hertfordshire voices have driven meaningful change.
