Some may see 'The Legionnaire' as acknowledging the archeological heritage of Stevenage, but with the view from the bench painting an image of an officer asleep, the fact is (that thanks to a vigilant reader of The Comet. who got in touch with us) a different opinion may be taken.
We have learnt that following the fire that occurred in May. SBC officers have determined it appropriate that they submit a planning application for the demolition of the C19th out-building adjacent to the farmhouse, that is protected by law due to its proximity to the Grade II listed building.
The only public notice of this was published on 1st October, with 18th October specified as the closure of the consultation period.
Councillors from all groups representing Stevenage constituents have indicated to FoFF a willingness to challenge this application and I call upon your good sense to make your opinions immediately known by submission of any objections through the council's planning portal, which we shall monitor https://publicaccess.stevenage.gov.uk/online-applications/search.do?action=simple&searchType=Application reference 26/00711/LB
If you wish please also inform all your local local borough councillors.
Alternatively, submissions may be made by email to [email protected] in which case please cc your submission to [email protected]

It's been a long while since posting, but yesterday I went to visit to Hampton Court Palace. Originally built by King Henry VIII, it later became the Royal residence of King William III and Queen Mary II. There, there is one portrait of King William III with one of his pages painted in 1689. This page would have been a colleague of William Watson, Page of The Bedchamber, who just a few years later was granted land in Weston Parish and is believed to be responsible for the planting of the oak trees in the current Box Wood, most of which were felled for the 'War Effort' around 1940.

Happy 101st Birthday to Frederick Alan Rawlinson.
It might not be Dawn of The Nugget, but here is one of Fred's scrapbook photos of Fairlands Farm's Chicken Run from the 1920s when his father was foreman at the farm.
Many happy returns, Fred. ๐ŸŽ‚๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽˆ

Thanks to the unknown 'gentleman' who reported damage to 'Marriott's Farm' to Herts Police this morning.
We were contacted by the constabulary this morning, informed local councillors and relevant council department and had a look to assess the situation.
We shall speak further with council departments in the morning
Meanwhile, due to the evidence available and an emerging pattern of incidents, stretching back serveral years, we have encouraged police to remain vigilant and maintain a presence around the area at this time.
Anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity around the farmhouse recently, is welcome to message us in confidence, as it may assist investigation of the CCTV from the farmhouse.

We:ve been alerted to an alarm bell going off at the farmhouse and spoken to Stevenage Borough Council facilities team, who have advised they are aware and went out to check on things earlier.
The alarm is currently continuing, but apart from the vegetation around the house, which requires some horticulture, there appears to be no particular cause for worry.

Work began at the farmhouse earlier this year to improve and repair the condition of the roof. We've been checking on the progress - have a look - follow on Facebook and/or Instagram for further updates.

For a while we've suspected the farm may have had a connection to the Elizabethan defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588. In a book in bookcase on another farm, about 400 miles Northwest, further evidence is found. Watch this space...
