Just over 2 weeks ago I conducted my first full Celebration of Life service...
Poignantly, it happened to be for my Uncle Danny.

Those of you who know my journey into celebrant training/work, will know that it's been one of a set of quite poignant coincidences all along the way...
Some would say that it all points to me being on the correct path.

The service was a beautiful one and ran smoothly with the collaboration of the family, Co-operative Funeralcare and Harwood Park Crematorium.

On reflection, I am proud of myself, as I know he would have been proud of the service I wrote and officiated for him. I kept it together and was given a massive pat on the back from the Co-Op Funeral Conductor and Harwood Park crematorium, who were aware it was my first full service and were so supportive and complimentary, for that I give much love and gratitude!

Most importantly though, is my family was proud that I had given Uncle Danny a compassionate and fitting farewell. It was an honour to tell his story and to send him on his way, back into the heart of all light and creation. Rest well Uncle Dan 🙏

To be able to do this for my uncle and for our family has only cemented in my heart and my mind that this line of work is a calling. I will always give as much of myself to each person and each family when given the honoured and sacred role of becoming their celebrant.

Life is precious, Love is eternal!

It was an absolute pleasure to attend the National Funeral Exhibition yesterday as a qualified celebrant...
I attended some amazing talks by seasoned professionals and met some incredible people doing incredible and innovative things within the Funeral industry.
I have walked away with some inspired ideas and look forward to sharing them with you once I have formulated them...
My over riding thoughts from this event is that we can make 'end of life' a beautiful and sacred thing!

The event has given me heaps of information and resources, if any of you loves ever have any questions regarding 'end of life' plans, please don't hesitate to ask, as I will always try my best to either give you the answer or help you find the answer.

Thank you NFE and all contributors for bringing your passion.

Over the past month I have been extremely lucky to shadow 2 exceptional funeral celebrants in their work and to start forging good relationships with fellow Celebrants, Funeral directors, Funeral arrangers and Crematoriums, I consider this vital and necessary in laying the foundations of good working practice.

I have been honoured to attend the funerals of some wonderful people and hear their life stories told in heartfelt and compassionate ways by their families and the Celebrants gifted the privilege of conducting the service and I am further understanding that life from beginning to end and on to the next realm is a joyous thing and should be held with the upmost respect and reverence...

Being a musician/singer/songwriter, my heart and my ears are always tuned into the song choices a person or a family decides to include in their funeral/end of life celebration and has had me settle (for now) on my own song choices to full stop my life story... I'll share them with you now...

SPECTRUM - Florence and the Machine (entry music) - because it's uplifting and other worldly and I'd like to think it would offer joy and comfort to family and friends and set the tone for a beautiful service.

LES FLEURS - Minnie Ripperton (reflection music)
I'd like to think this song encapsulates my sentiment through life, that there is beauty and love in abundance that runs through nature and all of us included.

DOLLY DAWN - Harry Belafonte (exit music) because again, it is uplifting and joyous and sings of a woman who loved to sing and dance... I want y'all smiling and dancing out of my service and I'd hope you would all carry that on for the rest of your lives.

I have also had this discussion with close family members and we have openly discussed what each of us would like played at our service along with other details... I think this is a really wonderful excersise for every family and friendship circle to indulge in... (1) it means that a person's wishes are honoured when the time comes (2) it gives you a very heartfelt insight into the inner workings of a person's being and (3) in some small way, it makes the subject of death less scary and taboo...

So come on... WHAT 3 SONGS WILL YOU CHOOSE?
And if you so choose feel free to tell me why?

SPRIIIIIIINGTIME... Happy Equinox all!!

Let's look to the light...
Spring is here,
Step into her beauty,
Make good intentions clear,
Speak more with mother nature,
In fleeting moments of fear,
Be active in her healing,
Be mindful of her way,
Her seasons are reminders,
That all things can be changed,
and in the light she gifts us,
comes a hope that we can see,
A brighter path,
ahead of us...
Where we live,
in harmony.

A very happy new year to one and all...

In my family, the Robin has always been held in high regard. My grandfather, who worked in the building trades all of his life, used to utter the words "The foreman is on the job", whenever a Robin would enter the garden or the work site, referring to how clever they were to observe us mere mortals digging the land, as they would patiently wait for the work to be done and then as tea break came for the humans, they would swoop down from the trees and fences to inspect the freshly dug soil for potential unearthed worms and then fill their bellies with the fruits of our labour.
In later years after my grandfather had passed on, my family came to view a visit from the Robin, as a sign that our passed loved ones were close by in heart, mind and spirit and so now, whenever I am lucky enough to spend time in the presence of our Robin friends, I always take a moment to give love and memorial to those who I have loved and lost. This photo 👇 captured one of those precious moments beautifully.
In some cultures and spiritual circles the Robin is also symbolic of life changes and new beginnings and so with that in mind, I'd like to offer everyone a very happy and fruitful 2024.

With love,
Cara. ❤️
