Lots of litter and fly tipping at Marymead Spring Woods last week, so I picked up a lot of the litter and reported the fly tipping

It’s amazing how many M&S trolleys I find dumped around the area (and how few others), so it was great to find out they are signed up with Trolleywise, even if they don’t bother advertising the fact.

They aren’t listed in the app’s drop-down, but enter them as other and give the location and trolleywise come and collect them.

Please download the app and report dumped trolleys when you see them and help keep the area looking good

What’s happening with climate and nature, and what does it mean for everyday life in the UK?

Join us for a screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing - an eye-opening film bringing together nine leading UK scientists and experts with the latest evidence and why it matters for things like:

🌧️ Extreme weather
🍞 Food security
🏥 Health
💷 Cost of living

The film is based on the National Emergency Briefing in Westminster (featured by ITV, Channel 4 and The Times) with appearances from Chris Packham, Deborah Meaden, and a range of voices from across the UK.

After the film there will be a short open discussion about what it means for our community and what we can do locally.

We are asking our MP to back the call for the government to hold its own emergency briefing to the nation, introduced by the Prime Minister, delivered by independent experts, and broadcast across TV, radio and social media. People deserve to know about threats that affect their lives.

Bring a friend, neighbour or family member: everyone is welcome.

Note: the film is only being shown at in-person screenings and is not available online.

Thanks go to Stevenage Borough Council and Cllr Forhad Chowdhury for clearing the thick sludge from the corner of Shephall Lane and Shephall Green Lane.

Part of that problem is shown in the photos, where I have dug out the drain covers from a couple of years’ worth of detritus. One of these drains isn’t even shown on Highways ‘ drains map. It’s amazing how much width of Road has been lost to years of leaves, twigs, branches and soil. Rain can no longer get to the edge of the road to drain properly and covered drain covers significantly slow drainage. All this contributes to accumulating leaves on the main section of the road, which eventually breaks down into sludge.

I spent two years as a councillor asking for it to be cleared back to the road-edge and it never happened. It would be great to see this done, even if it was section by section over a number of years

As the leaves change colour & fall from the trees - don't over-tidy them!
🍂 🍃
They play an important role in the life cycles of many species - from butterflies to !

If you must tidy gardens, leave a designated patch, edge or corner untouched for 💚

Update: SBC have confirmed that they know nothing about the signs. The intrigue continues.

I keep seeing these around. Does anyone know who is responsible or where the full routes are published?

A quick pick along the roadside near Leaner Life, Care Co., etc. You have to wonder about the owner of this Leaner Life drink. There are two bins nearby, but they had to dump their rubbish in the bushes.
