🐿️🌰 SQUIRRELS IN THE SPOTLIGHT - WANTED: SQUIRREL LEADERS! 🌰🐿️

Think Scouting is just knots and tents? Think again! 😎

As part of our need for more adult volunteers across our sections, here we have a look at our youngest section, SQUIRRELS 🐿️

We’re on the lookout for enthusiastic volunteers to join our Squirrels team and help our youngest adventurers (aged 4–6) discover just how much fun Scouting can be!

🌳 WHAT COULD FRIDAY AFTERNOONS LOOK LIKE?

🪵 Den building and getting creative with natural crafts
🏹 Soft archery and obstacle courses
🔎 Scavenger hunts and outdoor adventures
🎉 Parachute games and plenty of laughter
🐾 Animal handling and exciting new experiences
🌿 Adventures beyond the hut, exploring the world around us!

🕟 FRIDAYS | 4:30–5:30pm

💚 WE WANT YOU TO JOIN OUR TEAM!

We’re looking for people who can regularly help us deliver brilliant sessions for our young people.

And guess what? Volunteering isn’t just about giving your time. You get plenty back, too! 🙌

Six Squirrels from Oak Drey enjoyed an action-packed day at the Ware and District Squirrel Scouts Activity Day. They tried tomahawk throwing, climbing and the assault course, got creative making bandanas and decorating biscuits, and cooked pizzas on the fire. The day ended perfectly with everyone enjoying camp songs around the campfire.

A huge thank you to Gini at The Walled Garden for a fabulous Friday with Oak Drey! We dug up our potatoes, gathered windfall apples, cracked the conker vs sweet chestnut mystery, enjoyed donkey rides and cuddles, and admired the Harvest Festival decorations at St James’s Church. What a brilliant day!

A huge thankyou to Harlow Fire Station for welcoming our Forest Beaver Colony for a visit last night!
We got to see the station in full action with several call outs and you all did amazing!
A short visit but what a big impact you all had on our younger members and i think the smiles in the photos show just how great an evening they had!

Our Oak Drey squirrels started this term with a visit to Scott's Grotto. We split into two groups to explore the flint and shell embellished walls of Scott's magnificent grotto and to learn about it's history. Whilst one group did that, the other group went on a scavenger hunt around the gardens surrounding the summer house, to find the beautiful knitted birds. Thank you to all the volunteers for helping us and to our fabulous stewards Bill and Bob, who pointed out all of the grotto's little hidden wonders!

Forest Beavers enjoyed an evening bowling last night to finish their summer term!
A first for some of our beavers too!
The evening ended with lots of badges, 2 Bronze awards, 2 investitures and a Moving on award!
