Lending SPACE is an equipment lending library that lends out sensory, practical and educational resources to families who live in Hertfordshire with children and young people with additional needs.

Half Term Booking Opens Tonight at 7pm!

Don’t miss out if you’re planning a visit to Lending SPACE over May half term.

We’ll be open on:

Saturday 23 May
Wednesday 27 May

(We’ll be closed on Bank Holiday Monday, 25 May.)

During weekends and the school holidays, all stay-and-play visits are still free but need to be booked in advance, and sessions can fill up quickly.

As always, there’s no need to book if you’re just returning or collecting items.

If you are planning on visiting Lending SPACE in the next few days there are some pretty confusing road closed signs out and about. Never fear, we are still open and still accessible.

Our team have been out investigating and our advice is that if you are coming from the direction of Ware/A10 you can ignore them and if coming down Royston Road then just follow the diversion.

We are open tomorrow (Wednesday) and Saturday 2nd May (please book) before giving our staff and volunteers a well earned break on Bank Holiday Monday 4th May. Normal hours resume again on Wednesday 6th. See you soon!

Geese nesting 😊💜 Just a heads up to our families that like to feed the ducks and geese whilst visiting Lending SPACE there is a nesting mum on the bank side - please avoid the area for now. She has been witnessed being very protective. We all know that feeling don’t we! Please make sure you access Lending SPACE through the car park. We are looking forward to seeing you all this week!

Two of the families featured in this powerful Mother’s Day campaign with Jesy Nelson first found SPACE through Lending SPACE 💜

What started as borrowing equipment and finding support became part of a much bigger journey.

Poppy and Layla shared their stories so honestly — from pregnancy and NICU to diagnoses and everyday life raising children with additional needs. Stories full of strength, love and resilience.

A moment from Lending SPACE 💙

Often children instinctively find the movement their bodies need.

Equipment like this spinning bowl provides vestibular input (movement and balance), which helps the brain process sensory information. For many children, this type of movement can help their nervous system feel calmer and more regulated.

We love seeing children explore equipment and discover what works for them.

At Lending SPACE, we see sensory differences every week.

Our Talking Sensory course is designed to further help you understand the why behind what you’re seeing and offer practical advice on effective support strategies and tools.

Across 3 weeks, we’ll explore:

✔ Practical strategies you can use at home and in school
✔ How to build a sensory toolkit that genuinely helps

At Lending SPACE, families can borrow sensory equipment - from weighted items and compression resources to movement and regulation tools - but equipment works best when it’s paired with understanding.

Thinking about visiting Lending SPACE? Here’s what you need to know.

Lending SPACE is a welcoming place for families of children and young people with additional needs - somewhere you can come without pressure, judgement or expectations.

We are open:
🗓 Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays
⏰ 9:30am – 12:30pm

• Booking is required on Saturdays and during school holidays to help us manage numbers.
• You don’t need to make a booking if you are just borrowing or returning equipment.

When you visit, you can:

• Explore a wide range of sensory and SEND equipment and resources
• Borrow equipment to try at home
• Stay, play and spend time in a low-pressure, understanding environment
• Chat with our friendly team if you’d like advice or ideas
• Connect with other parent carers who “get it”

There is parking on site, there’s no paperwork needed to borrow and you’re welcome to arrive at any time during the session. You can come with your child, or just bring yourself 💜

For many families, simply having a space where their child can be themselves and where they feel welcome and understood makes a huge difference.
