π’ STATEMENT REGARDING RECENT ONLINE REPORTS & WELFARE CHECK π’
Following a number of reports circulating online, our rescue team recently attended the address in question to conduct another thorough welfare check. We want to reassure our community that the dog is safe, healthy, and doing fine.
We have been actively offering support to this dog and owner since last year following previous reports of welfare concerns. Because of this long-term involvement, our team sees this dog and his living conditions regularly.
π Correcting the Rumours:
The claims currently being shared online stating that the dog has no shelter, no food, no access to water, and is locked in the entry are false.
β
Unannounced Spot Checks:
We have repeatedly conducted unplanned "spot checks" at the property to view the dog's true living conditions.
π₯© Fortnightly Food Deliveries:
We personally deliver food to this home every single fortnight. These deliveries are made without any prior warning of our arrival day or time.
π©Ί Health & Care:
He is very well-fed, in good physical condition, and all his veterinary care is up to date.
π Understanding the Reality: A Working Dog Environment:
We understand that this setup may not look like an ideal, traditional family pet situation to everyone passing by.
However, we need to look at this with understanding and look at the actual dog involved:
π An Outdoor/Working Dog:
He is a working dog by nature and has spent his entire life living happily as an outdoor dog. He has a proper, secure shelter provided for him. He simply likes to sit out in the entry specifically to watch people pass by.
π The Barking:
Because he sits in the entry to people-watch, his barking can echo loudly down the street. This can sound distressing, but it is a noise issue, not a welfare issue.
π© The Garden:
There can be a buildup of p**p at times, but this is strictly isolated to the very back of the garden. The owner is elderly and cannot physically clean the garden every single day. Furthermore, the family has suffered a devastating recent loss and is currently dealing with intense grief and preparing for a funeral.
β οΈ The Alternative is Significantly Worse:
We must be entirely honest with the public about what happens if people keep pushing this complaint. This dog is not rehomable. Because of his age, his instinct as an outdoor working dog, and his behavioral traits- including aggression and severe guarding he cannot be integrated into a family home.
If public pressure forces this dog to be seized, he will not go into a standard adoption pipeline. The only alternative left for him is that he will be seized and put to sleep (PTS).
Even with the good intentions of the people reporting him, forcing him out of the only home he knows will end his life, not save it.
He is a well-cared-for dog with an owner who loves him. We ask everyone to show some empathy for a grieving elderly owner, look at the facts, the dog's background, and never share anyoneβs address publicly via social media.
Thank you for your understanding.
