20mph Speed Limit on Horsemarling Lane, Standish
As part of the planning permission for the Green Walk development at the former Standish Hospital site, the developer is obligated to reinstate Horsemarling Lane and enhance it to improve the safety and shared space for all users. However this is now at risk of not being delivered! Gloucestershire County Council Highways has advised that the planned safety enhancements for Hosrsemarling lane cannot now proceed unless the speed limit is reduced to 20mph, due to the physical layout of the road and lack of space available.

Standish Parish Council is requesting your help and assistance in raising awareness of the issue and has created a petition for residents to sign in order to demonstrate to GCC that there is demand for a reduction in speed locally. This will not only allow for the implementation of these crucial upgrades but will also significantly enhance the overall safety and accessibility of Horsemarling Lane. This change would enable more residents to engage in active travel, such as walking and cycling into Stonehouse, without fear of high-speed traffic, thus improving the quality of life for the community.

In summary, introducing a 20 mph limit on Horsemarling lane will:

Improve the experience and safety for horse riders, cyclists and walkers
Allow for the delivery of the road reinstatement
Encourage sustainable transport use
Reduce the potential for collisions

Without enough signatures, the road reinstatement will be further delayed.

The Parish Council should be incredibly grateful if you could please take a moment to sign the petition. Please follow the link below:

- Stick to clearly defined paths and avoid long grass
- Wear long trousers
- Use insect repellent
- Regularly check for ticks

These are just some of the ways you can keep yourself safe from the effects of ticks while enjoying the outdoors. To help you with your visit, we have plenty of paths (mown, gravel or other) which you can stick to. The longer grass supports wildlife and nature to thrive.

If you spot a tick, they should be carefully removed using tick removal tool or fine tipped tweezers to remove it as soon as possible.

Ticks are tiny spider-like creatures that attach themselves to animals and sometimes people to feed.

If you've been bitten or have recently spent time outdoors and develop an unusual rash or start to feel unwell, contact your GP.

We're sharing this advice as some tick bites may result in an infection called Lyme Disease. Learn more at the
