Barnack and Pilsgate Volunteers Support National Speed Watch Day.

Volunteers from Barnack and Pilsgate's Community Speed Watch team will be taking part in National Speed Watch Day on Friday 17th July, joining communities across the country in raising awareness of road safety and the dangers of excessive speed.

The local team, made up entirely of trained volunteers, works alongside Cambridgeshire Police to monitor vehicle speeds and encourage safer driving within the parish.

Speeding remains one of the issues most frequently raised by residents and road users. Community Speed Watch provides an opportunity for local people to play a positive role in helping improve safety on our roads, particularly in areas where pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders and other vulnerable road users may be present.

Councillor Marc Nelson-Smith, on behalf of Barnack and Pilsgate Parish Council, said:
"We are extremely grateful to our Community Speed Watch volunteers who give up their time to help make our villages safer. National Speed Watch Day provides an opportunity to highlight the importance of responsible driving and the difference that local volunteers can make. The vast majority of motorists drive responsibly and courteously. However, even small reductions in speed can significantly reduce the risk and severity of collisions. We hope this national day of action will encourage all road users to take extra care when travelling through Barnack, Pilsgate and the surrounding rural area."

The Parish Council would like to thank all Community Speed Watch volunteers for their continued commitment and support.

Residents interested in learning more about Community Speed Watch or volunteering in the future are encouraged to contact the Parish Council.

All Residents will have an opportunity to hear directly from Cambridgeshire Police and ask questions at a meeting organised by our local City Councillor Kevin Tighe.

This will be held at Barnack Village Hall on Friday 31st July, 7.30-8.30pm.

It would be useful to have a good turnout so that everyone can hear news directly.

In the meantime, if you witness an incident, have information that may assist the police, or notice anything unusual, please report it. Local police officers have requested this to enable them to gather intelligence.
Even the smallest detail may prove valuable.
