Each spring, communities across Great Britain and Ireland are brightened by a beautiful carpet of purple crocuses in bloom. These vibrant flowers are more than just a welcome sign of the new season โ they are a symbol of hope and a reminder of the global fight to end polio.
Rotary clubs, together with local volunteers and community groups, plant millions of purple crocus corms every year to raise awareness of Rotaryโs mission to eradicate this life-threatening and disabling disease. Planting days bring people together, encourage community spirit, and spark conversations about the importance of achieving a polio-free world.
Staines Rotary proudly supports this initiative by planting crocuses around the town each year, adding colour to local spaces while helping spread an important message.
You can spot these purple blooms in various locations around Staines, including by the side of the River Colne at the Two Rivers Centre, Lammas Park, and outside the Council Offices in Knowle Green.
The Purple Crocus initiative shows how small local actions can contribute to a global impact. Each flower represents a step closer to a world without polio.
So as youโre out and about this spring, look out for the splash of purple around town whilst it lasts โ a beautiful reminder of community spirit and a cause that brings people together.
