Enjoy the sunshine this Bank Holiday – but help us keep Staffordshire safe ☀️

We all love a bit of warm weather, and with temperatures set to reach 28°C, it’s the perfect time to get outdoors. But the dry conditions mean the risk of wildfires is very high right now 🔥

We’re already seeing the impact. In April alone, firefighters dealt with 241 outdoor fires. More than half started deliberately, and that’s a 70% increase compared to the same time last year. It only takes one small spark for a fire to spread quickly and cause lasting damage to wildlife, habitats and our communities.

That’s why we’re asking everyone to think before they act. Don’t bring barbecues into our country parks or countryside spaces, and don’t leave litter behind – especially glass bottles, which can start fires in the sun 🗑️

Sadly, we’ve already seen the damage careless behaviour can cause, including at a viewing platform in Brindley Heath earlier this month.

Help us prevent fires by:
➡️ Never lighting fires or using disposable barbecues
➡️ Putting ci******es out properly and using bins
➡️ Taking your litter home if bins are full
➡️ Avoiding leaving glass bottles in the sun

💧 If you’re thinking about open water swimming, take care. Lakes and reservoirs may look calm, but they can be dangerous, even in warm weather. Cold water shock can hit quickly. Always go with someone else and choose a supervised setting where safety measures are in place.

Did you know that it can take up to 48 hours for the ashes from a disposable barbecue to cool down completely?

One careless action could impact the environment for decades to come.

Leave your BBQs at home, skip the campfire, and make sure ci******es are disposed of properly. If you spot a wildfire, call 999 right away ⚠️
