Mottey Meadows Nature Walk - Tuesday 30th June 7.00pm

SinCH has organised a guided tour of the Mottey Meadows National Nature Reserve (Wheaton Aston). The meadows have been continuously managed for hay making for many centuries and is an extremely rare example of that habitat, supporting over 240 species of flowering plants.

We do have places left so please do join us. NB There is an upper limit on numbers so please email your interest asap to [email protected] with numbers of places requested - please also state whether you want the the 5.30pm or 7.00pm option.

Meet next to the village school for 7.00pm.

Alternatively you can join us at the Hartley Arms for food beforehand at 5.30pm.

Chris Packham backs Stafford screening of The People’s Emergency Briefing
A free public screening of The People’s Emergency Briefing will take place at NSCG Stafford College, Victoria Square, Stafford, ST16 2QR on Monday 15 June at 19.00.
The screening comes at a time when the UK has seen the hottest May days on record, with predictions for more hot and dry weather over the summer. This impacts all aspects of life here in Stafford, particularly affecting the health of vulnerable residents, reducing yields of farm crops, and harming wildlife.
Following the film there will be a structured discussion when people can share their concerns with a panel of representatives from Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, local business, the food and farming sector, and the Borough Council.
But... There is lots of great work going on already in and around Stafford, as the evening will demonstrate. But we need to do much more, and take the bolder action now called for by the science, as the film explains.

Latest advice from the British Trust for Ornithology on feeding garden birds to reduce the risk to finches from finch trichomonosis:
Feeding seasonally
Based on the best available evidence, we recommend halting the provision of seeds and peanuts during the warmer months as a proportionate step to reduce the impact of finch trichomonosis. For those who choose to feed birds, this represents best practice under present conditions.
What this means in reality is:

adjusting food types seasonally – feed seeds and peanuts from November to April, pausing May to October.
continuing mealworms and fat / suet provision year-round.
maintaining good food and water hygiene.

Why on earth should we bother about net zero? I just asked AI, and here is its answer:
Earth can sustain life without net-zero emissions
, but it cannot sustain modern human civilization as we know it. While life itself is resilient, failing to reach net-zero carbon emissions will likely lead to rapid, uncontrollable warming, causing catastrophic biodiversity loss, extreme weather, and the collapse of essential ecosystems.

Hmm...so bother we should!!!
