We are immensely proud of the achievements of one of our Corporate members – Chase Aqua Rural Enterprise – CARE. They and their talented learners have transformed half of the Medieval Herbal Garden at Stafford Castle. After careful research they replanted the beds with the herbs that would have been there in medieval times. This required thorough digging to remove the weeds as well as carefully potting up the plants to be replaced in the appropriate beds when they were ready. The woodcraft group replaced the wooden sides and another group painted the slates to number the beds. Finally the beautifully painted labels and Bed information signs were placed. I have considerable doubts that the QR codes would have been there in medieval times but these now take you to further information about the beds. The rabbits that have taken the occasional nibble to check out the herbs probably were.
Well done to all concerned we are as thrilled as the person in charge of Stafford historical sites clearly was. The photos below give a bit of a flavour of the before & after.

It’s amazing how much we think we know about our local charities—until we gather for an evening to present the funds we’ve raised throughout the year and discover the incredible breadth of the work they really do. Their impact on our community is truly inspiring.

Our main recipients of this year’s donations are:

Blood Bikes – carrying so much more than blood, with cars as well as motorcycles helping to transport vital medical supplies.

Katharine House Hospice – currently undertaking a major redevelopment to provide single-occupancy rooms, while continuing the outstanding care and support they offer throughout the community.

Staffordshire Women’s Aid – whose work continues to astound us with the breadth of support they provide to survivors of domestic abuse, including safe accommodation alongside their main refuge.

Midlands Air Ambulance Charity – able to bring part of a hospital directly to the patient, with highly skilled personnel and life-saving equipment at the scene.

Samaritans – expanding their invaluable work into schools, universities and football clubs, helping to save lives and support people across the community.

The Ukulele Community Group – bringing joy through performances at events such as our Pensioners’ Party, while also encouraging others to join them and learn to play.

Our heartfelt thanks—and those of these wonderful organisations—go to everyone who supported our fundraising by buying Duck Race or Easter Egg tickets, joining us at the Frog Race, donating to the Santa Sleigh appeal, or contributing at Asda or the Co-op in Eccleshall.

Every ticket bought, every donation made and every event supported has helped make a real difference.

Several free health checks including blood pressure and cholesterol were undertaken by Everyone Health at Asda. Our thanks to Keith from Stafford Castle Rotary Club for organising it all. It was good to work with the 2 other Stafford clubs. Some people were just passing by & took advantage of the health check others had booked in. Thanks again to Everyone Health & Asda.
