Ooh so close but after an exciting match Leek Rotary beat us. Our thanks for a great evening in a lovely spot. Our best wishes for an enjoyable match in the next round but since you are playing our A team you'll forgive me for hoping the result is reversed.

The afternoon tea at Stafford Rugby Club left members’ mouths watering but it was not for us but for our guests at the Pensioners Party. The ukulele band played and sung us in superbly & Jeannie Bee & Jerry Lee got people clapping & dancing the afternoon away. We very fondly remembered David Stubbs who, with Janet, started the Pensioners Party. Though the venue and meal has changed we hope the fun and laughter remains the same. Though I do miss David’s jokes!

It was a busy week last week. On Wednesday Frank and Diane accompanied children from Marshlands School to Twycross Zoo for the Rotary Children’s Funday. A good day was had by all. Except perhaps the orangutan who had to improvise to keep the rain off. Over 27,000 children took part in various fundays across the country sponsored by Rotary clubs and Kids in Mind. Amazing what working together does.

The birds were singing, the walkers walked & the sun shone - briefly. Umbrellas were also useful but not for long. Lovely to meet all the other marshals and walkers on the Walk for Parkinson’s on Cannock Chase. Congratulations to all those who walked & to Parkinson’s UK for a great event.

It may look like the ducks are snoozing but they are in fact undergoing their annual sort to check none have flown off to evade the excitement of the annual duck race. They do have to undergo the indignity of having their numbers checked , and in some cases reinked, but such is the life of a racing duck!
Do join us and them on 11th July at Victoria Park for the race.
