**Statement from Doxey Parish Council**

Doxey Parish Council is deeply concerned by proposals that could lead to the dissolution of the council and the loss of an important democratic voice for our community.

For many years, the Parish Council has served the residents of Doxey by representing local concerns, supporting community initiatives, and ensuring that the views of residents are heard in decisions that affect our area. As the most local level of government, a parish council exists to give communities a direct voice in how their neighbourhood is run.

The prospect of Doxey Parish Council being abolished raises serious concerns about the future representation of our residents. Without a parish council, decisions affecting Doxey would be made further away from the community, and residents may have fewer opportunities to influence matters that directly impact their daily lives.

We believe strongly that local democracy matters. The Parish Council provides a transparent, accountable, and accessible forum where residents can raise issues, contribute ideas, and help shape the future of Doxey.

Doxey Parish Council does not want to see this vital democratic institution made extinct. Instead, we want to work constructively with residents, community groups, and other authorities to ensure that Doxey continues to have strong, local representation.

We encourage residents to stay informed, take part in discussions about the future of our community, and make their voices heard.

Your parish council needs you!

Following our previous post regarding the Community Governance Review, and comments received, we have put together a leaflet explaining who we are and what we do for you.

Public consultation for the governance review is due to start on Monday 9th February 2026. Residents of Doxey will receive a letter through their door explaining how you can have your say. As soon as we receive the online link we will publish it too.

Doxey Parish Council believes that Doxey should retain its Parish Council and that decisions affecting this community are best made locally, by councillors elected specifically to represent Doxey.
