SAYes Mentoring SAYes works with under-served youth aged 14-32 to support them in their transition to independence.

SAYes Mentoring finds and trains mentors, and matches them with young people in need of mentorship (mentees). Mentees meet with their mentors on a video call for 1 hour, once a week, for 9 months. We are currently running programmes for mentees in South Africa and London; and recruiting mentors from all over the world.

Kwabena was candid with us about a period when he found it hard to show up to mentoring. His mentors told him he needed to take more responsibility for his time. It stung at first, and he soon understood it came from people who saw his potential. He hasn't missed a session since, and he says the accountability has spread into other parts of his life. On Saturday Fiona, our Business Development team member, was invited to the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse at Shakespeare’s Globe in Southwark - one of our core London boroughs - to see a the Globe Young Company perform Pineapple by Anne Odeke, part of the Shakespeare and Race Festival 2026. The Globe run several programmes for youth, including Globe Youth Theatre on weekends (for 8-19 year olds), Globe Young Company (intensive 3 month programmes for ages 14-19), and Young Actors Courses (for ages 8-19) during school holidays. To make these opportunities accessible, 25% of places are made available to those in need of financial support, with the goal of reaching 50% of places by 2030. Fiona said: “The Sam Wanamaker playhouse is absolutely magical to behold, and - as a former young thespian - I was so happy to see a stage full of enthusiastic young performers getting the chance to work together, guided by the team at The Globe, and perform in such special environment. I know this experience will stay with them for life, and I was delighted to be able to witness it. Congratulations to all involved, and thanks for having me. We are very happy to be connected with the team supporting young people at The Globe, and I hope some of our creatively minded mentees and alumni will be able to take advantage of the opportunities to get involved.”

Mentoring conversations can cover a lot of ground. Kwabena told us he started with career questions, then discovered he could ask his mentor about relationships and culture too. His mentor shared his own experiences and was curious about Kwabena's background, and those conversations helped shape both his writing and his career. After he announced his first book, his mentor, who worked in marketing, helped him work out who he was tailoring it to and what goal to set. Our SAYes team was delighted to join Girls and Boys Town Macassar for their Hug Day event, a joyful celebration of connection, community, and giving back.

With music, games, plenty of opportunities to connect, and R20 fundraising stickers helping support the cause, the day was a wonderful reminder that small gestures can make a meaningful difference.

At SAYes Mentoring, we believe that positive relationships and a sense of belonging can help young people build confidence and thrive. Hug Day celebrated that same spirit, reminding us all of the power of kindness and human connection.

Thank you to Girls and Boys Town Macassar for inviting us to be part of such a meaningful event and for creating space for the community to come together in support of a great cause.

One smart move can change your future.
Our SAYes South African Youth Ambassadors and fellow alumni recently attended Netto’s Change Your Future panel discussion, where they explored the importance of budgeting, investing, saving, and financial planning.
One of the biggest takeaways? Start saving and investing early. The financial decisions we make today can help shape the opportunities we create for tomorrow.

Today, SAYes mentee Kwabena publishes his second novel, Destiny and the Stool.

In our interview he spoke about how mentoring helped him get clear on what he wants to be known for, the values he holds and what he wants to help people do. He pointed to his growth in business sense since his first book, and the new website behind this launch is one example.
