St Neots St Marys Rotary Club is a voluntary organisation whose members enjoy each other's friendship and, in doing so, raise money for a range of good causes through activities including the Annual Sportsman's Evening, the St Neots Mayor's Charity Golf Day, the St Neots Charity Dragon Boat Event, the Annual Charity Bike Ride as well as organising social functions for members and their families.

Our club has responded quickly to the terrible disaster in Nepal by arranging for a ShelterBox to be delivered immediately to the affected area. Since 2021 the club has provided 4 ShelterBoxes to Ukraine, I to Morocco, 1 to Libya, 1 to Gaza, 1 to Bangkok and 1 to Jamaica representing £6000 in donations.
The club was awarded a Bronze certificate by ShelterBox for outstanding support during 2025/2026.
ShelterBox was founded in 2000 by the Rotary Club of Helston-Lizard in the small town of Helston, Cornwall UK.
Now, 25 years later, ShelterBox has grown into an independent international disaster relief organisation that provides emergency shelter, tools and other essentials to people after disaster.

The club were proud to support two young St Neots Dragon Boat Team members who were recently selected in the under 18 crew to represent Great Britain in the European Dragon Boat championships held in Munich in July . Rhys and Marlee visited the club this week and gave an excellent and informative presentation of their experience. Twenty one countries were represented at the event and the crews had to race over 200 metre, 500 metre and 2000 metre distances. The GB team members were selected from clubs around the country and it was a great honour for two members of the SNDBT club to have been selected.

Another highly successful St Neots Charity Dragon Boat Event organised by St Neots Town Council with help from our club and the St Neots Dragon Boat Team. Incredibly competitive racing by 20 crews watched by a huge crowd on a beautiful summer's day with a number of races being decided by a fraction of a second, and for the first time ever a dead heat in one of the semi finals resulting in a race off.
The event was won for the second consecutive year by Paranova (formerly Coveris) with AJS Construction runners up and the Drunken Dragons in third place, the winning margin being just two tenths of a second in a very competitive final.
It was great to see so many families enjoying the Regatta Meadow with all the stalls and food outlets with many families picnicking alongside the river.
Hopefully a sizeable sum will have been raised for the Mayor's charities and our own nominated charity Sue Ryder - St Johns Hospice once all the proceeds have been calculated.
We hope to see many of the crews back again next year.

At last evening's club meeting Mike Truswell was installed as Club President by Malcolm Watkins who handed over the reins after a very successful year, particularly for the Fund Raising efforts which raised just over £19,000 and enabled Malcolm to donate £4500 to his nominated charity East Anglian Air Ambulance as well as being able to help 22 other local charities and international charities and disaster appeals throughout the year. Also the club has enjoyed a very successful year socially with a varied number of events held for members, partners and guests being well attended throughout the year.
Mike is hoping to continue this trend and has nominated Sue Ryder Hospice at Moggerhanger as his charity for the year. With fund raising events such as the Dragon Boat Event, Mayor's Golf Day both organised in conjunction with St Neots Town Council, together with two planned Sportsman's lunches, Mike hopes the club is able to support as many good causes in the coming year as it is again hoped to raise in excess of £15,000 for our Charity account.

As an example of 'Rotary in Action' one of our members has recently visited one of the bridges on the Ouse Valley Way, close to the caravan site in Eynesbury, to clear the path of vegetation which was blocking the route. The 'before' and 'after' photos tell the tale. More would have been done but the battery on the hedge trimmer ran out!!!

Club members were pleased to support 'The Big Listen' today on the Market Square together with our Mother Club in a shared marquee. We were able to speak to many people during the day and tell them about our fund raising efforts over the years, over £500,000 raised by our club alone since 1985, the majority of which is donated to local charities and good causes.

President Malcolm and members and partners recently visited the HQ of the East Anglian Air Ambulance at Cambridge Airport. The group were able to meet the aircrew, paramedics and Doctors who explained what was involved in a typical day and the area they covered with the helicopter and fast response vehicles. Malcolm was delighted to present a cheque for £4000 being part of the Club's fund raising activities during his year as President which ends on 30th June. It proved to be a very enjoyable and educational day out followed by a nice lunch at a local hostelry.

President Malcolm and Past President Mike Andrews recently attended the District Foundation lunch to be presented with the District Peace Trophy for Rotary Year 2025-26 by District Governor Moira Penney. This has been awarded to recognise the er****on of a total of 6 Rotary Peace Poles , five in schools in the St Neots area and one in a school in Kenya that was supported by our club.

A Peace Pole is a monument that displays the message 'Peace the World Over ' in the language of the country where it is placed. It usually displays 3 to 7 additional messages meaningful to the host site.

Rotary Sensory Walk and Garden: celebrating a new space for learning and wellbeing in St Neots.

Samuel Pepys School in St Neots is delighted to announce the completion of its new Rotary Sensory Walk and Garden, a vibrant and inclusive space designed to enrich the lives of pupils and the local community.

The project began as a result of discussions between the Rotary Club of St Neots St Marys during a meeting with the Head of Samuel Pepys School in late 2023.

The project began on 5 October 2024 and reached completion on 5 April 2026, marking a significant milestone in the school’s commitment to fostering a supportive environment for all children. The school submitted an expression of interest for funding to the National Highways A428 Black Cat to Gibbet Social Value Fund on 11 June 2026, securing a grant of £30,000. Indre Parker from National Highways served as the main contact throughout the grant application process, ensuring smooth communication and support.

The Mayor of St Neots Cllr Richard Slade formally opened the garden with one of the pupils.

Having recently donated funds to the The Wildlife Trust to help with the education of young people, 20 Club members recently visited Paxton Pits to discover more about the work at the Education Centre which helps schools, families, young people and nature journaling participants engage with and discover more about how they can take action for wildlife.
Debbie McKenzie led the group in some pond dipping to show the myriad of life that exists in the ponds at the Education Centre and proved to be a fountain of knowledge on the various species that were spotted.

The centre is run by The Wildlife Trust for Beds, Cambs and Northants whilst the site is managed by Huntingdonshire District Council.
