Run entirely by Volunteers, meeting weekly, we give young girls space to have fun, the chance to learn something new by trying a whole range of different activities, visit new places, the opportunity to explore their own interests and earn interest badges, and to learn to be good members of their wider community. Over their time with the unit, they make lots of new friends and develop their self-confidence (as well as getting their hands dirty with nature, STEM activities, games, arts and crafts!). Each girl makes a promise to 'do their best' and to be 'kind and helpful.' We live the Girlguiding motto - Girls can do anything!
WHO CAN DO IT? - Everyone 18+ (or from age 14 as a young leader) is welcome to Volunteer with us, with no experience necessary - comprehensive training and DBS checks are provided if you decide to continue with us, with transferrable skills gained that look great on your CV! This role is ideal for those looking for future roles in education, those retired who want to give back, those who cannot work, those in colleges/sixth form/university, those on maternity leave who want to keep busy, those who just want to make a difference and empower young girls! 💪
WHY DO YOU NEED ME? - Without Volunteers, the Unit simply cannot run. Powered by our inspiring volunteers, we help all girls know they can do anything. 88% of young members say the volunteers in their unit make them feel like they matter. You can give as much or as little time as you’d like volunteering. Whether you want to help behind the scenes, at special events, or get involved every week, there’s loads of ways to inspire girls with Girlguiding. The more helpers we have in our weekly meetings, the more girls we can take off our huge several year waiting lists.
HOW CAN IT BENEFIT ME? - We offer lots of opportunities to learn new things that suit you, your interests and lifestyle. You can gain lots of experience and transferable skills and it will help you and your CV to stand out in a pile of applicants when it comes to looking for future work. You can take it further with our leader development programme, and there's lots of specialised training for volunteers. From becoming a first aider to a qualified outdoor activity instructor, whatever it is you’re looking for, there’ll be something in it for you! It's an opportunity to escape and have some fun for an hour a week, keep your mind and body active and give back to your community.
