Dear BID Members,

With The Open Championship returning to St Andrews in 2027, we are seeking to understand the demand for staff parking among local businesses.

At this stage, discussions around business and community parking are still in the early stages, and there are no confirmed arrangements in place. We are keen to support the needs of local businesses wherever possible, while recognising the challenges unique to St Andrews.

The information gathered through this survey will help us build a clearer picture of demand among businesses, understand the challenges you may face, and provide valuable evidence for ongoing discussions with event organisers and relevant stakeholders.

Your responses will help ensure that the needs of local businesses are represented as these discussions progress and should take less than two minutes to complete. Please feel free to share this with other local business owners as appropriate.

CLEAN AND GREEN UPDATE

The Clean and Green Team have been very busy recently with a focus on cleaning our coast. They partnered with the Scotsman Group to do a beach clean on Castle Sands and the harbour area, leaving it free from rubbish.

The pathway down to the tidal pool has recently undergone construction to install a handrail, making the tidal pool more accessible, thanks to the Hamish Foundation. The Clean and Green Team did an excellent job of clearing this pathway following the installation, sweeping the steps down to the beach and picking up anything left behind.

Additionally, the team have been up to their usual antics of cleaning up rubbish throughout the town, scrubbing away graffiti and helping the council with the removal of abandoned bikes. They also supported St Andrews Flowers in Bloom this week by taking down the flowers for them after the Dunhill.

Please see below a message from the University of St Andrews regarding upcoming works to South Castle Street and South Street.

🚧 Communications infrastructure works - South Castle Street and South Street.

The University of St Andrews will begin communications infrastructure works on sections of South Castle Street and South Street from Monday 12 October. The project, being delivered by CalForth Construction Ltd, involves the installation of new communications ducting and is expected to take around six weeks to complete.

Works will be carried out in phases between Northpoint Café, South Castle Street and the Medieval History Building (65-71 South Street). To minimise disruption, excavation will take place in short sections of approximately 8-12 metres, with each section reinstated before work moves on. Each phase is expected to take around five days.

The University, Fife Council and CalForth are working closely to maintain access throughout the project. Access to all businesses will remain open, with further information on individual phases and any traffic management arrangements shared in advance.
