Help CASH by sharing your experience of housing in St. Andrews! A culture of rent transparency is vital to ensure that students can make informed decisions about their housing and to alert others as to whether they are being exploited financially or their landlords are acting irresponsibly.

A little bit of data goes a long way, help us make a new rent map and more this year as we research the emotional experience of students who've suffered the immense stress and pressure of trying to find somewhere to live amidst the housing crisis.

CASH/Socialists and Labour are hosting the first Food Drive of the year!🥫 Give back to the North-East Fife community!!

We will be outside Tesco on Friday the 20th from 11-3 accepting donations for Storehouse St Andrews Food Bank. Make sure to stop by and drop something off after your usual Tesco shop!

Most needed items include: tinned meat, fish, shelf safe milk, instant coffee, biscuits, sugar, household cleaning goods, toiletries and other dry goods!

True North are making a documentary for BBC Scotland and BBC Three on the Scottish housing crisis, particularly focusing on young, private renters who are facing huge rent increases and/ or evictions because of the lifting of the temporary cap and ban on 31st March 2024.

CASH is holding elections for next year! 📢‼️

We are looking to elect new Coordinators for Action, Communication, and Research. We will also be introducing new Assistant Coordinator positions for each team.

We are looking for anyone who is passionate about the housing crisis in St. Andrews and beyond. If you’re interested in this, now is the perfect time to run!

🚨Our St. Andrews Rent Map is here!🚨

We used your responses to our Rent Transparency Form to make a map showing the average rent for individuals living in different areas in St. Andrews! Rent season is hitting everyone hard, and it can be challenging to tell how the rent you’re being asked to pay compares to those around you. We made this map to help.

All of the numbers are based off of the average rent paid by individuals in each postcode or street. The map will be continuously updated, so if you haven’t already, please fill out our Rent Transparency Form!

Welcome to semester 2! It’s good to be back, but we are entering yet another stressful time for housing.

With the cold weather, rent increases, and fast moving flat listings, making secure plans for next year can be challenging. We are here to support you through it all. Stay tuned over the next few weeks as we post tips and rent maps to help you through finding new housing for next year!

Come join CASH and DSN next Friday for a workshop on accessible accommodation! We will be presenting information on what resources are available for disabled students looking for housing, and what rights disabled students have as tenants. We will end the workshop with a discussion about any other questions you have about accessible accommodation!

It’s time to make St. Andrews a short-term let control zone!

There are over 350 flats in St. Andrews that are licensed to be used as short-term lets. An abundance of short-term lets can increase the cost of living in St. Andrews, and it decreases the number of available rooms for students and locals.

If St. Andrews became a short-term let control zone, it would slow the growth of short-term letting in town, and it would provide residents the opportunity to speak out about new short-term lets.

Join us in putting pressure on Fife Council to make St. Andrews a short-term let control zone!

Take part in our Rent Transparency Project!

We are looking to collect data on how much students are paying rent in different areas of St. Andrews. It can be challenging for students to find private accommodation when they are unsure of how reasonable their rent prices are. We hope that this information can make it easier for student to know if what they are currently paying is reasonable, and to know what prices to look for when looking for accommodation.

Please fill out our form if you rent private accommodation in St. Andrews! All of the information provided will be anonymous, and you can be as broad as you would like in your responses. Help us to provide more transparency for students renting private accommodation!
