The Lumsden Club

The Lumsden Club The Lumsden club aims to support women's and children's charities, and promote the arts both locally and abroad.

These aims are fulfilled through volunteering and various fundraising events. The Club was formed in honour of Louisa Lumsden (1840-1935), the first prominent female figure within the University of St Andrews. Graduating from Cambridge in 1877, she was a principal founder and the first Head Mistress of St Leonard’s School. Five years later she became warden of the first residence for female studen

ts, University Hall. In 1911 she was awarded an LLD for her active promotion and integration of female students, and later honored by The Crown with the title Dame Commander of the British Empire in recognition of her services to female education. Her influence and achievements within the University, town and beyond inspired the founding of The Lumsden Club in 2001.
